I'm looking forward to seeing how this old paper is...contact printing some 6x6 and 6x9 negatives. I couldn't resist the 1946 expiration date.

Paula Chamlee told me last year that she's printed on OOOOOOOOLD(like older than yours here) papers(mostly silver chloride emulsions) and they are very special. Most printed with little additional fog that couldn't be rectified by altering standard amidol techniques. Sad that all those papers are now gone...

Many of those prints were on small paper like yours too, from 6x7 negatives(and spectacular even at those small "gems" sizes(as she called them)

That's some old paper! Below is an excerpt from an email from Gordon Hutchings to Michael Smith & Paula Chamlee regarding out of date Azo.

http://www.michaelandpaula.com/mp/Azo_Comments.html#c5

"So, I dug and dug and came up with some 30 year old AZO paper ! Expiration date 1980 and not refrigerated, kept on a back shelf in a closet where temp reaches 90 plus in summer. Oh well, I printed some with my pyro negatives and I was blown away. Despite all that I have learned in 30 years, I couldn't match the look with even my expensive Bergger cloro-brom paper, Agfa, Forte, MG, Oriental--anything. The AZO prints were alive and the local separation was wonderful. Green grass had almost the separation of an infrared photo. All this on ancient 20 year out-of-date paper."

Looking forward to seeing your results.

I have two boxes that I bought from Michael before Kodak stopped making it. I also have the sample pack he provided to me in his work shop. I mainly make enlargements o I have yet to address the two boxes. I have made a few prints using the paper and it is quite good, you really need amidol or made a couple other developers I can think of, but its great stuff! Eventually I will use them I am sure.

...no worries gents....I've got the Amidol standing by. I'm looking forward to comparing this paper with the last batches of Azo 3 and the 2 runs of Lodima.

It's a beautiful thing. The freezer is well-stocked. Enjoy!

It's 66 years old.

And I'll bet the papers useless.

I found some Azo postcard stock from 1921 and was able to print on it, which amazed me. This was 5 years ago.

P6132...Silver chloride paper is amazing stuff....lasts far longer than 'normal' FB papers...as already mentioned...I'm betting it will print just fine...

I also have some Azo from the teens (expired May 11, 1920) that makes a decent image with lots of restrainer. It's not great, but it's interesting how good it is after all this time.

I have a box of grade 1 Azo from 1952 that prints marvelously. If there is any fog I am not able to see it. I only wish I stocked up with a lifetime supply of Rochester in grade 1-4 when I had the chance.

I loved Azo when I was printing silver. Beautiful tones on all of the paper I printed from. Don't use it any more so I guess I should sell some and let others enjoy it.

You would most likely lose that bet!

I started to say the same thing. Several years ago I had a chance to test some Azo dated 1946 and it printed beautifully. Absolutely no fog from aging.

Just going by my experience.

Is that experience with Azo specifically?

I am printing on some g4 azo from the mid 1980s with no issue outside of the printer :)

Yup. I had a bunch from the thirties though forties.
