you're asking the wrong crowd....the sellers don't want to undercut their stock and the buyers....well...they only buy if they know that they can immediately sell it for more..

case in point

I'll give you 100 bucks if the shutter is working. that is now the value

I'd keep it---you know..I've got a lot of crap laying around that I want to sell because I don't use it...then...like 2-3 years later...I NEED it!!!..you know how much I'd pay for something I need but don't have????....man...

yeah..you got it for a reason, so keep it...unless you wanna be a professional seller or getting out of the photo fun

this crowd IS good for specs and coverage and experience--practical USE--..price--for GET that...VERY tight lipped because they wanna bargain and are afraid to let a "secret" out....

yeah...."in the know"...."smart shoppers"...."no nonsense"...."not taking anycrap"...."big man"....

Be careful about which lens is being discussed; both the Apo-Germinar and the Germinar-W are discussed.

Steve,

I have one of those lenses. It's a wonderful lightweight sharp lens that easily covers 8x10. I'd say that a pristine one with a shutter and the f stop scale is worth ~$500- $600. Jim Galli borrowed mine for a shot and loved it!

My guess is that this is a large coverage type of lens, given it's tremendous size. I have a 240mm f9 Docter Optics Germinar W, and it's a small and light lens. It covers 8x10. As a result, the larger lens would be a hard sell to 4x5 - 8x10 photographers, especially as there's not much of a maximum aperture advantage. Thus, find out about coverage, and investigate what comparable lenses are going for.

Hi,

your Apo Germinar-W 8/240 in shutter is extremely rare .. it is an 8-element all-air spaced symmetrical MC-coated lens by design a repro lens .. a technological overkill ..and a powerful lens .. price .. difficult to tell .. in case you ever consider to "get rid of it" .. please contact me first,

joerg

What Jörg said, but as you know, it is massive, whereas both the Apo-Germinar 240mm f/9 and the Germinar W 240mm f/9 are much smaller. More information and specs can be found here: http://www.arnecroell.com/docter.pdf
