I am trying to find a town near Frisco where I can get an apartment for a month, and have public transport into San Francisco. I want to reduce the cost for an apartment (VRBO) but yet have a 45 minute or less commute to the city. Any ideas? Of course if it were near good LF shooting as well that would be a plus.

Look along the BART lines in the EAST bay. Might find something in Albany, Richmond.

You might try to find an apt to share, or room to rent, right in the city.
Oh, the locals don't call it Frisco.

I live on the East Bay, where we do call it 'Frisco or worse. Might try Alameda. It's a quiet and photogenic town with a Ferry running to Frisco.

Here's an idea. "California"?!? - places to shoot?, good food?, nude beaches? How about a less general and more descriptive title for your thread, that won't sucker everyone into your housing request?

Yeah, "close to BART" is the key phrase. You can even bring bikes on the BART (with restrictions). Of course you can take buses to the BART station but then all your scheduling gets more complicated, best to be within walking distance of a BART station.

I'd qualify it by saying, places to shoot without getting shot. You don't want to around
the lower Richmond or MacArthur BART stations.

ROL-I plan to use VRBO for the actual rental, not looking for a free ride if that is the implication. I was looking for some geographical help as I don't know the City. Thanks for the warning Drew it is one of the reasons I am looking for help!

Here's your BART map: http://www.bart.gov/stations/index.aspx

Get one of these for BART, Muni (SF bus/lt. rail) and AC Transit (East Bay)
https://www.clippercard.com/ClipperWeb/index.do
For your needs, maybe just put some cash on it, but there are monthly pass options too. You can do a mix of cash and passes.

Frisco is a fallen flag railroad in the Midwest. San Francisco is a city. ;)

Terry,

There are several "Residential Clubs" in downtown San Francisco that cater to students and others that need short term rentals. Here is a link to one of them that maintains several properties:

http://sfohousing.com/home.html

For a few weeks I stayed in the Harcourt http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60713-d565629-r3796081-Harcourt_Hotel-San_Francisco_California.html on Larkin Street near Sutter when I first arrived in SF back in '84. The have/had both private and shared living arrangements with 2 meals a day - breakfast and supper. I had a shared arrangement (ideal for those with very limited budgets) with a guy that came to SF to enroll in fall classes at SF State. The other residents were a mixture of foreign exchange students, especially French which gave me the opportunity to practice my French, people coming to SF to begin a new employment (two guys come to mind that landed a job with the IRS in SF), and others.

I found the Harcourt clean, food good, the residents trustworthy and congenial, and at a price that I could afford. That said, SF is the big city and as in all big cities you have to keep your guard up. While staying at the Harcourt Leonard Lake came by one afternoon and took 2 or 3 people with him to Lake County for the weekend where he and this other guy were torturing and murdering people. Being new to the area I would have probably jumped at the chance to spend the weekend in lake County but luckily I arrived after they had left.

When I was travelliing to SF alot, I bought an old sailboat at Berkeley Marina for $1000. A slip then was $120/ month. Afterwards I sold it. Best view of the Golden Gate Bridge to wake up to :) Rather rustic accomodations and not much room (it was a 24' Boat) with showers and wc at the marina. A sweet deal.

Welcome to California. But first, you never call it "Frisco." ;)
Or "San Fran"
Locals will be all too happy to correct you on that point, you'll discover.
"the City" is the correct terminology.
