Hello all,

I've been shooting on and off for about 30 years. My dad started me off at the young age of about 8 and I've gone through phases of shooting over the years. There were a fair number of "off" years after highschool, but I'm back at it with a passion.

I've used 35mm for the vast majority of my shooting. Mainly film, but I recently bought a DSLR a short while ago as well. Then I decided to step things up a bit and bought a Mamiya RZ67 to dive into the realm of medium format. When I first looked down on the ground glass something changed. I fell in love with it. Ground glass is a whole different world compared to a viewfinder. So the obvious progression and desire to see a bigger ground glass image occurred and on Friday I ordered a Cambo 45N from keh. A weekend of researching and scouring found me ordering a Schneider Symmar-S 210mm this morning. I can feel that this is only the beginning.

Richard.

Welcome fellow darksider, Soon you will have hypo pumping through your arteries and it will be too late -- the delicious damage will be done and you will be hooked on fine glass and film holders -- have fun !!

Oh yeah, whoops. Forgot to specify that I'm in Vancouver BC Canada. Maybe not so much maple syrup locally, just the riots though.

Welcome from your neighbouring province. From the title I was guessing it must be either from Montreal or Vancouver, especially with the maple syrup I was thinking Montreal. But them in Montreal they only riot for two reasons and neither are stupid, the Habs won or the Habs lost.

Welcome to group therapy! The Cambo is a nice camera system that will serve you well for a long time, and the lens you chose is a good one. Have fun!!

18 months ago I couldn't even spell large format; now I am one -- welcome to the world of dinosaurs. Pretty soon you'll be trying to spell alternative processes -- you'll learn......

Welcome Richard and I warn you do not look at a 8x10 inch groundglass or you are get the same sickness as almost all here!
Larger is always better;--)))

Cheers Armin

No. He needs to buy a 5x7 first, then realize there are more film options in 8x10. Then the 8x10 will just seem so small compared to those 11x14 contact prints. Next thing you know, he's shooting 7x17 or 8x20 for the panoramas, then up to 14x17 or 12x20 because those panoramic shots just don't take up enough real estate on the wall. Then he'll find out about Richard Ritter's ULF cameras and order a 16x20 or 20x24.
35mm was so much cheaper.

I've got a nice maple tree in the front yard, but its sap tastes like crap on my pancakes. Welcome.
