is it possible to delete or edit a post in this forum? If so, how?

In the lower right of your message are four buttons. From left to right: EDIT, Quote, " (multi-quote), and paper/quill (quick reply)

When edit is selected, in the edit window are four boxes: Save Go Advanced, DELETE, and Cancel

I don't think one can delete a thread, however, without asking a moderator to do that.

We get requests to delete threads on a regular basis. Just ask. We can also delete individual postings.

There are time resctitions for editing. Like two hours I think. You can delete a thread if no one has responded.

But how do I edit the opening post?

So if I have not made the edit in two hours, that is it..no edits are possible by the user??

Correct. It is good to write the correct thing the first time, or not say anything one might regret living into infamy!

For cases where you linked an image from your hosting site to keep the quality, it's a problem if you decide to replace the image later because, say, you fixed something in it and it leads to lots of white, blank areas.

Other forums using this same message board code allow editing after the fact. I think it is a good idea.

Extended editing capability, particularly after someone has responded, leads to a host of other problems. The original poster can always post a clarification follow-up, or "report" his/her own post, asking the moderators to delete it.

It is not about the software. Editing your wording after the fact oftentimes orphans responses to your original statement. It is much better to clarify your thoughts via another subsequent post or even better-simply think through your point before posting it to begin with..
