Just went today for the first time. It's an absolutely wonderful place to spend a couple hours in. It's free but you must make an appointment. They limit the amount of people in there so it's quiet and serene. An the pictures are pretty good. Highly recommended if you're in the neighborhood.

Pier 24 is one of the best venues for photography. No crowds, intelligent selection of photos, no wall labels, and free. No big deal to reserve a slot.
