Hi,

after trying some searches for specific answers here in the forum,
I'm wondering how to do it efficiently with the 'Search' function?
What are the tricks and what to avoid?
Thanks for any tips.

It's rather difficult to answer such a general question. Search here works the same as most others.

Try using the Advanced Search feature. There's a link to it when you click on Search in the toolbar.

Advanced Search allows you to restrict the search to certain areas of the Forum, and to limit the search by age or other factors.

Use search terms that would be unique to your interest, but not needlessly restrictive.

Remember, this Search function is totally stupid. It just tries to match words, with no understanding of what you mean or want.

Hi Leigh,

thanks for your reply.

Yes, the search function can not know what I want.
I assumed there were any tricks or methods to tease it out of the "data ocean".

I tried the advanced search several times but had always the feeling
I'm not using it efficiently.
Well, I grew up without computer, video games etc.,
when I was young we kids played in the forest shooting with selfmade bows,
later I never used computers when driving trucks through Europe and painting pictures
the other half of time.

Got my first own computer some months ago,
a friend installed everything ready for use :D.

Andi,

It takes a while to learn and be comfortable with it. The reason the children are so good is they practice, practice, and have no fear of doing anything wrong. Do that, enjoy and it will come.

Hi John,

thanks for your encouragement.
Sometimes I wish I had endless time for practice and experiments...

That is why I retired in 2003.

On the other hand, I sold computer software the last twenty years I worked. Now that I am not trying, testing, experimenting every day, details are disappearing from my memory.
