Note that California's John Muir Trail is rated 2d in this compilation:

Here's LP's pick:

I was on the Routeburn Track (one of LP's picks) in the middle of winter back in 1975. It was amazing. But there are so many possible contenders for such Top-Tens. Down in the Grand Canyon is equally amazing as the Abel Tasman Track in NZ...but two very different impossible-to-compare hikes!

I hope to get back into the Yolla Bollys this Spring-early summer. No way would any trail there make it into a top-ten, or even perhaps the top 100, yet it is a unique beautiful wilderness (I was a wilderness ranger there for ten seasons, 1981-1990).

I've spent my whole life avoiding the Muir Trail - we always referred to it as the "Freeway". Key to a great "trek" - leave the trail !

LOL. Plus you'll be hearing every other language except English on that trail too! :p

Seeing this list reminded me that I've always wanted to hike the Narrows. Has anyone here done it? The part about swimming is my main concern. I know how to swim but not while carrying a backpack.

Drew is correct. These lists should be relabled: Places to avoid. Too many Griswolds.

The good news? I didn't see my favorites on the list.

My Bucket List hike: North Boundary Trail in Jasper N.P. & Mt. Robson P.P.

Robson is on my list as well, but in the winter when there are no tourists to trip over.
There are also at least a dozen more glaciers I would like to get to before global warming melts them:rolleyes:

Top trek in the world? My front door to the mail box without the walker. (And back.)

No place to set up my 8x10! With my 8x10 gear I am 300 pounds -- Why am I reminded of the novel The Bridge at San Luis Rey? LOL!

Brian, I've hiked the Narrows countless times. I've never done the through hike from the top all the way, but I've day hiked up from the bottom a lot. During normal flow, I've never encountered anything over waist deep water. It is definitely a hike you MUST do before you die, which is why it has unfortunately become so popular. Hike it it May when flows are down and you can avoid the swarms of people. Or wait until September.
