The world of scrapbookers would love to know the best bang for the buck scanner we could use to scan decent quality copies of 12 x 12 scrapbook pages. Oh, and can I ask for one around $500? Lots say good for scanning books but not photos. Looking for something that will give a decent copy/color representation/clear photo so that these pages can be stored on disk (in case of fire and scrapbooks are ruined), copies could be made (Costco does reasonable 12 x 12 pages) for distribution to family members. Thanks.

are you looking for a 12"x12" scanner ? Most are 8.5 x 11 or there abouts.

For that price, best bet in a tabloid sized scanner would be a used Epson 1640xl, which has USB connection. The Epson 836xl would also work and cost less, but you would need to have a SCSI connection, or ability to add that to your computer.

In looking at the tabloid size scanners, the price for most is over $1,000. I was hoping for something closer to $500. I just want to be able to scan and save copies of the 12 x 12 scrapbook pages I create, and pass copies onto family members. The Plustek Opticpro A320 - 48 BIT Color - 24 BIT Grayscale scanner looks to be in my price range. Any opinion about whether this would suit my needs? Want decent color match and clear photos. I realize this request won't be met with something more reasonably priced than the higher priced Epsons. Oh, and I should mention that I have a Mac version 10.4.11.

Get a used copy stand (or build one) and shoot the scrapbook with a dSLR. It's probably faster than a scanner.
