Traveling from Canada by train, stuck in Chicago, got out of Chicago, not supposed to make it all the way to Flagstaff, then told he would make it there, supposed to drive to Las Vegas in a rental car, then on to Death Valley ......... supposed to be in DV 2/7-2/11.

Last contact from him was 2/3 in Chicago ....... did he make it????

Is he stuck on a train between Albuquerque and Flagstaff? Did he get his rental car and make it to Las Vegas ... only to lose his shirt in a casino and hawk his camera gear at "The Pawn Stars Pawn Shop?" Did he make it through Las Vegas and into Death Valley only to fall victim to heat stroke??????

Where oh Where can he be????

What happens in Vegas... Stays in Vegas. And the Chicken Ranch as the case may be.

He probably just doesn't have internet and I bet his Canadian cell phone isn't roaming well in the boonies.

Not seen in old Tonopah and just as well, as a certain purveyor of vintage lenses has been known to skin Cajun's of all their cash and send them wandering aimlessly in the desert with Compound shutters and the like.

Mugged and left penniless by the Canadian snowbird mafia.

Maybe he got confused and ended up in Las Vegas, NM.

Don't worry about the sturdy Canadian boy.

Probably using his skills and skinning a snake for his first meal in days, trying to figure the best way out of the desert.. I have faith in him.

Maybe he's gone starkers, valley fever? All that sand....sand....everywhere....sand.....where's the SNOW! He might be trying to dig a snow cave for shelter in the sand...or an igloo.

or still working out the correct combination of tilt and shift to get that desert landscape all in focus.

Haven't seen anyone wandering around these parts lost and packing a big camera, mumbling why is the sand so white.....and so cold......and stuck to the trees

Alien abduction in the desert?
Giving them a demonstration of earth photon imaging , in exchange for the REAL secrets of all those pyramids.
When returned he'll have large format portraits of conehead ET's moving those rocks around at the Racetrack Valley.

He might show up on next Monday night's Pawn Star episode trying to hock his cameras. I can see Chumlee asking, "Where's the delete button".

Does somebody have his cell number? Dial his cell phone and leave a message.

Oh, wait, that's too simple.

Jim Gali, we need a lens for the LARGE FORMAT SIGNAL!!!

forgot to pack the Glen Morangie and went home to retrieve it would be my uneducated guess. Man's gotta have his single malt yano :)

Lost his shirt in Vegas?
Had a drink at Badwater?
Faded into the bokeh at Zabriskie point?
Where's Richard?

I don't know, but you guys are tempting to go out to Death valley and look for him.
I think I'd better take some LF gear with me to help with my "search" :-)

I got a few emails from Richard when he was in Death Valley. He made it to Death Valley, had the flu for the first few days, but is feeling better. In an email he sent last night, he said he was leaving Death Valley this morning for Joshua Tree. In that email he mentioned he was running out of internet minutes, which may explain why he hasn't posted to the forum.

OK, I'm online here in Joshua Tree! Illness and sporadic internet and cell coverage has made it difficult for me to post here! After a miserable start through Chicago and 2 days in bed with Flu (not Flo) in Death Valley, I finally got out Wednesday and did some photography including a rather spectacular ride through Titus Canyon. A few more photos yesterday and today I drove all the way to JT after a stop in China Ranch for a date shake. Very neat place! Tomorrow (Saturday) out at dawn to JT and back for evening light. Sunday morning off to Palm Springs area. Hoping to meet up with 3 of you in the next few days and also taking in at least 2 exhibits in Scottsdale. Man, honestly I haven't been this sick in 10 years...I was actually a little worried for a while! The weather has been amazing and I'm enjoying myself. My thanks again to all the forum sages who proffered excellent suggestions for this Canadian boy! So, look for me in Palm Springs and Scottsdale...I'll be wearing a black T-shirt....:D
Laura, I'm sorry I missed you. I was quite impressed with the Shoshone area! I stopped at the little museum and even bought a book...

Too bad we have bare blue skies here in Joshua Tree. I'm only 8 miles from the park entrance and haven't even bothered to go out. Supposed to be some rain next week.

Richard K.

I should have added that next time, I'll spend more time in Saline Valley area (I got to the Lee Flats area for a bit) and also include the Eureka dunes, an easy run North! Because I wasn't feeling well, I only took about 10 shots in DV. This will be remedied next time!:)

I too was a little disappointed with the perfect skies upon my arrival! It will be a challenge...:)

Richard, glad to hear you're feeling better, had to laugh when you mentioned black tee shirts. On a trip to Death Valley for a workshop my girl friend kindly packed my cloths for me. The first morning awoke nice and early, went to put on a T-shirt and guess what every one was black. And of coarse I wore a black one for the drive out. Luckily it was the last week in Feb so I survived.

Richard,

Ok, that big sign, held up by those Clydesdales and the spotty dog. Ok. we need to go back to the marketing department. Just to see what happened.

Just when are you coming back

Barker Dam isn't a bad spot for sunset. Get close to the dam on the south side. The rocks on the north side will light up golden at sunset and you'll have water in the foreground reflecting them

Another good place is right at the entrance to Jumbo Rocks campground though maybe an hour or two earlier than sunset

Met him for lunch with Dan Dozer, another LF fellow, in La Quinta yesterday. What a warm and nice fellow! Lugging his three bags of LF gears around with a tripod, looking for a good time.

We had a good time and saw some really nice nude studies from Dan who gave up landscape and threw himself whole-heartedly into more challenging work after the first Chamonix Nude Shoot Out.

....threw himself whole-heartedly into more challenging work after the first Chamonix Nude Shoot Out.

Ah, so he was a casualty of the shootout! A couple of very fine gents - it was really great to finally meet Hugo in person after sending him wads of money all these years. A spectacular gentleman, as is Dan. We're hoping to do a WS in JT next year. What was it - nude self-portraits?!?

No, shooting naked Chamonix cameras. Since all involved were bad shots, the cameras survived just fine. ;)
