Hi guys,

I was just watching a video on youtube about Alec Soth and at 0:37 he opens a seemingly practical bag.

Does anyone know which one it is?

Kind regards

Paul

Looks like an F64 bag.

Hard to tell for sure but as Jan says, it looks like the large, 8x10 f64 backpack. Great backpack, I've been using mine for at least 10 years with everything from 8x10 to digital.

It is the f64 bag!
I find mine a tad small for the Zone VI 8x10

Yes, f64. It's perfect for the Wehman. I can fit the camera and four holders in the main compartment. In the top, I can fit three Copal 1 lenses (including a 150 SS XL), meter, flashlight, loupe, filters, small digicam, etc. If I need to take more, like a lunch, I attach the side bags, otherwise I leave them at home.

Yes, that's the large F64 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/91694-REG/f_64_BPXB_BPX_Extra_Large_Backpack.html) backpack. I use it for the Wehman with three holders, three lenses, meter, cable release, filters, notebook, etc.

Could someone with an f64 BPX tell me the internal dimensions of the lower compartment? The info doesn't seem to be listed anywhere, and I need to know if I can get an arca 8x10 in there (need 34 cm W, 40 cm H, 15 cm D).

ETA: n/m, I did just find the answer on the BH site: 33.02 x 33.02 x 15.24cm

My version is roughly 13.5 wide x 14.5 height x 6.5 deep (all in inches). You could cram something larger in there and it would work, especially on the 6.5 height. I pile the holders on top of the camera, and I can get 5 in there if I want to, but I usually put 3 or 4. Then I stick the BTZS hood in the main outer pocket which provides a degree of cushion if something knocks the outside.

John: thanks. I don't think that will work for the arca with the function carrier attached -- I need more like 15.8 inches for the height. It seems that the BP with a single compartment will work.

Interesting that they show identical width and length dimensions. I measured mine for you before I saw your n/m and zipper to zipper it was about 14 inches long and 12 inches wide. I don't do centimeters so I don't know how that translates to B&H's numbers but apparently mine has either shrunk or grown over the years (most likely shrunk, like me).

Anyone have experience with F64 AND Photobackpacker gear ? Looking for a solution for a 7x17, couple of holders and probably one lens (305 G Claron).

thanks,

Fred

Fred, I use the Photobackpacker for my 4x5 and 5x7 setups. I have yet to try the 8x10 in it, but it should not be an issue.
I might actually use this bag for all 3 formats unless I travel with all three and need the extra bag for the 8x10 plus lenses. The F64 can handle only three of my five lenses.

Thanks Michael and Doug,

F64 sounds to small for the 7x17 unfortunately. I'm close to getting the P2 as the modularity for different formats would very useful for me since I'm not at the point of hauling all toys out on trips. Yet :)

Thats the XL f64 backpack for 8x10,, I have one and just a year or two after I purchaced it the shoulder strap came unsewn and detached where it meets the bag.

I now carry it with one strap over my shoulder and hold the other over my shoulder w/ my left hand for long hikes..

I wouldn't recommend them but you get what you pay for

Steve,
Same thing happened to mine, except I bought it that way, pretty inexpensive I might add. I have since restitched all the seams where the straps meet the pack but very conscious of possible failure.

Joe,

Damn shame they couldn't make those areas more stable cause I believe they have potential to be a good pack ..

so what's the best pack out there? For a field camera like a chamonix, a few holders, lenses etc.?

Photobackpacker. You could get away with their smaller pack for that kit.

Tamrac Expedition 8. I carry my Chamonix and up to 7 lenses (Some are small but cover 8x10) loupe, meter and a good selection of filters, filter adaptor rings and a hood.
If i leave two smaller lenses out of the front pocket i can carry 3 holders there.

I use the Expedition 7 for 4x5 and the 6 for a medium format set-up.
Very happy with the quality of these bags.
