Does anyone have any experience with this film. I love their 200 iso but like the DoDo that seems to be now extinct.

I use PMK so would be interested in any reaction people have to the film in that developer. I am however not developer challenged so all comments would be appreciated. Everyone will find their own speed index but what are you finding as the basic normal speed?

I as just about to ask the same exact question including the use of Pyrocat for platinum printing negs. I am looking to buy a couple of boxes and wonder if anyone has any problems with it.

I have not tested it for palladium negatives, but I would be surprised if it will reach required DR for this process.

I placed this film in order list for maybe next or after next week, also placed with 100ASA, so will see how those film will serve me.

I tried the 120-size in PMK and wasn't impressed; the effective ASA seemed to be below 100, which is ridiculous for a 400-speed film. However, in HC-110 it works very well at 200, and I would be very interested in knowing if the large-format film is identical with the roll stock.

I would also like to know why PMK should be so aberrant with this film; my usual combination is FP4+/PMK at 80, which seems entirely reasonable.

OK well I just went with FP4 instead. The arista ultra 400 sounds like a gamble I don't want to take right now.

I've been using AEDU 400 in 120, 4x5, and 8x10. Great stuff! I expose at EI 200 and develop in Halcyon. I'll try to dig up some curves and examples.

Jay have you tried the foma 400 sheet with your own 510? I thought I'd like to try it in the hopes of getting more speed than with PMK.

I've shot boxes of the 100 in both 4x5 and 120. I like it, and haven't had any problems with it in Pyrocat-HD at box speed. I've read elsewhere not to use an acid stop with it, as it may cause pinholes in the emulsion. I use a half strength stop followed by a water rinse prior to fixing in TF-4. The blue base looks odd at first glance, but the negatives print well.

I've used it at 200 with hc110... I found it in consistent even within the same roll... Not great... The 100 is good stuff tho...

Aristia film is all re-branded something-else. Anyone know what it really IS?

The Arista EDU Ultra is Fomapan made by Foma.

Yes, I shoot it at box speed with 510-Pyro. I've used this combination a lot in Alaska. I develop in 510-Pyro 1:500 for 30 minutes @ 70F with 10 seconds agitation every 10 minutes. I'm using an old Kodak folder there, and no exposure meter, and this development seems to be very forgiving.

Thanks Jay thats interesting. I'd be happy if I could get a true speed of around ISO 200/250 with that combination.

Jay what do you think would be a good starting time for foma 400/510/BTZS tubes and at what dilution? Also...would you recommend an alkaline fix like TF-2 over an acid fix. Sorry for all the question;-)

Kev,

Bobpin gets great results using 510 1:500 in his Jobo, with extended development times. I'd be more likely to use 1:100 for 7:30, 70F. Either type of fixer will work just fine. Good luck!

Im extremely mixed on Foma 400. I used to use it in 120 with Ilfosol-3 when I had zero access to my normal developer of 510-pyro. It gave me decent results shot at 320.

I left it alone for a few months and then decided to give it a shot in 4x5; by this time I was back at home and had access to 510. I can get "ok" results when I shoot at 200, but I feel like I give up shadow detail. I still have 30 sheets left and I cant bring myself to use them for anything because I have had such poor results.

My alternative is to use shanghai gp3@200. I find that the grain is similar to Foma 400@200.

I want badly to like the Foma 400 because I like all of their other products...but I just can't.

A recent poster on a UK forum has just purchased a box of Fomapan 400 sheet film and has discover coating defects on it. Opinion is divided as to the consistency of QR.

I've been following that thread myself, and it's somewhat discouraged me from trying Foma.
