We say........"MERRY CHRISTMAS"

Re-visiting this landscape soft image thinking about that thread and the twinkles made me think more of Christmas time. Look through your stuff and see what you've got that lends itself somehow to your idea of Christmas.

Not LF, but definitely cool. My (at the time) 15 year old daughter took this last December with a Nikon P&S.

Two weeks ago I let her take my D300 to Germany and this is what she came back with...

This is the most "Christmasy" LF photo I have so far. Perhaps I'll have more as winter moves along. Taken from Mt Blue Overlook, Maine. Feliz Navidad!

When I came across this scene just after Christmas in 2009 and saw the bunny tracks cutting through the trees, the first thing that came to mind was a Christmas tune with the words, "Dashing through the snow...". This is 4x5 on Acros with a 300mm Nikkor.

Jim, love the snow exposure. Probably a piece of cake for you, but it often eludes my efforts. :)

Bob and Peter - Thanks for the compliments.

Bob,
This was shot on Acros which has an extremely wide latitude. I metered the snow in direct sun and put that in Zone VII. Then I did an N-1 development in Rodinal 1+49 to make sure that the extreme highlights wouldn't be blown. The darkest areas on the trees were on Zone II. This one just worked out. Believe me, I've had other snow shots that didn't quite capture the texture as well, but I think that the very low angle of the sun helped a lot in this shot. I probably could have pulled this off with normal development, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Not exactly a Christmas card shot, but definitely a Christmas shot (from 2009, Slovakia).

This is also my only "HDR" 4x5 shot - I knew that I will either blow away the window or loose the shadows, so I took 2 photos and combined them after scanning with PS. I somehow forgot to move the rear standard to front so I got the rails in the shot (I used a bit off fall) so I had to crop them out.

Thank you. Yes, the dogs are Bernese mountain dogs, generally called "Berners."

A question to all that send photographic Christmas cards. My father started printing our cards in 1946 and I picked up the tradition about 25 years ago. I was printing and mounting about 120 cards each year until the overall costs became outrageous and I stopped five years ago. My friends loved the cards but, I was spending about $5.00/card. My question is, do you still send printed cards or electronic cards?

I'll be sending traditional cards with the pictures tucked inside. I'll send about 50 cards so I just ran off 50 4x6 on my Epson last night. I used store brand paper so all told with ink usage it probably cost me $20 to print them off.

I can see wet printed cards being very expensive and time consuming, especially that many of them.

I used Shutterfly, 50 4.5 x 6.25 folded cards w envelopes for $54 shipped using a promo code for a discount. Unfortunately you have to use their canned designs but with a little Photoshop trickery you can make something decent.

I had this idea for awhile and couldn't shake it...so I did it. Printed and ready for the US mail..large format cameras wouldn't work, but there's an aplanat and a petzval in there.. and I only had to clone one camera...It's a 4x6 postcard as I hate licking envelopes.
