I had the great pleasure to hear Ed Fausty speak about the collotype process (not to be confused wih calotypes) at the Center for Alternative Photography (CAP) in NYC tonight...
Before writing about the lecture, allow me to state how lucky I am to be able to attend CAP lectures and workshops. It is certainly a unique institution and I don't think there is any other place in the world where people can get similar hands-on training in the alternative photographic processes. I was therefore also quite heartened to see the lecture so well-attended; the lecture room was filled with about 40 or so people from all over the world. I never thought a talk on some arcane alternative photographic process from the mid-19th century could draw so many people on a Tuesday night in Manhattan!
