Herman Leonard
March 6, 1923 - August 14, 2010

What a legend...what a man. Bobby and I had the great fortune of meeting and spending some time with Herman while he lived in New Orleans. The time we did spend with him was priceless. We thank both he and Jenny Bagert for their generosity and thoughtfulness. Our best to his family and friends.

We in New Orleans were quite lucky to have him for a time. Great photographer and generous spirit. He will be missed.

NYTimes obituary with slide show : http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/18/arts/music/18leonard.html

"Mr. Leonard, who shot with a Speed Graphic, was a master printer. Using an old trick of darkroom alchemy, he soaked unexposed film in mercury to enhance its speed in low light. He astonished pharmacists by ordering thermometers in bulk."
