I have added a cemetery section to my site:
http://www.epr-art.com/galleries/b4c-cemeteries/
La Jarita Cemetery, Willacy County, Texas. South of the King Ranch. The land was donated for the cemetery more than 100 years ago, but the adjoining landowner is trying to take the land. Rodenstock 180mm, Tmy-2.

One from the late great Korona:

Korona 8x10, Koehlar Extra Rapid Anastigmat, Arista.EDU Ultra 100. First time I ran out of coverage with that lens...
And one from the old Magic Latnern lens I used to have. Same cemetery.

Here is one I like, note the pattern in the doors behind the grate, really cool.

This was among my earliest LF attempts; the subject (Egyptian Revival monument) clearly is more interesting than my photography!

How are the rules?
Are images made with roll film holders on LF-cameras accepted? :)
This one is from the jewish cemetery in Prague. An amazing place and a must if you ever visit Prague. The graves date back to early 15th century. Note the gardener in the background.

I have always enjoyed photographing cemeteries, so here is another one.
The cemetery in Longyearbyen/Svalbard. Not in use anymore. The majority of the graves are miners who died of the "Spanish flu" in 1918. Note the old cableway stands in the hillside.

Glad you took your aging Tri-x there to be shot, not buried.

Drew - what a coincidence. Not only do we have the same name, but I wasn't aware
anyone else knew about the little cemetery at Pt Reyes- most people drive right past it. But frankly, it has driven me nuts trying to get a good angle, and I've typically ended up walking away with just some good detail shots of the trees.

Infrared and cemeteries just seem to go well together.
I guess I just do a better job of reading signs than most folks do. I didn't know it was there until I saw it on a sign while driving to another location, so I made a mental note to hit it on the way out.

On the way home from a weekend trip I was able to convince my wife and a friend to let me stop to shoot a church in the Little Shasta Valley of northern California. After a bit they tired of reading magazines while I waited for the light, so they started walking and told me to pick them up. I found them wandering a country cemetery that was quite fascinating. I tried a couple shots, and here are the results.
The first headstone appears to have simply been carved onto a granite boulder. The main one in the second image is carved out of marble, and the dark lines are lichen. I had a bit of trouble separating all the elements in the second shot, as you can see. I'll definitely have to go back! All the stones face west, allowing them to catch the last light of the day.
I really like shooting cemeteries. Specifically old jewish cemeteries, which are quite abundant in the Czech Republic.
This is my first attempt with X-ray film with emulsion on both sides - overexposed, overdeveloped, severely scratched and with development streaks.... In fact I quite like it :p Taken at not so old (17th century) but large jewish cemetery (more than 1000 gravestones) in a town few kilometers far from my home.
http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/8092/dsc02497lff.jpg
The second picture could be considered more successful from technical point of view. Taken at smaller and little bit older cemetery also few kilometers far from my home. There used to be some beautiful wild cherry trees but they were removed during the last cemetery maintenance :(

This is taken in the German War Cemetary at Cannock Chase in England in a beautifully attractive and secluded setting. I make no particular claims for its photographic merit but it does belong in this thread. I came across it by accident a few years ago and revisited last year. It was an unusual and very moving experience to visit such a place. Mixed emotions surfaced in me but ultimately I felt proud that we can respect and preserve so lovingly the final resting place of those who at the time of their death were our enemy. The cemetry is maintained superbly by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission whose primary role it is to maintain the graves all over the world of the 1 million Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in the first and second world wars and who are buried in 150 countries. It also maintains and manages cemeteries for others - such as this one on behalf of the people and government of Germany. This image shows one small corner of the cemetry.
I was in doubt about whether photographing there was acceptable to the CWGC, indeed I did wonder whether it was what I wanted to do. I asked and was encouraged to do so by an senior offical of the CWGC.

Donald,
Very beautiful work as always.
I guess cemeteries are as beautiful in Italy as in Spain? Over the years I have made some wonderful negatives of cemeteries in Spain, mostly in the autonomy of Galicia in northwestern Spain, but for some reason I have never printed them, in fact not a single one.
Your work is an inspiration to pull those negatives, most on 5X7 but quite a number on 7X17 and 12X20, and print them.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks Sandy, I look forward to seeing your images should you decide to print them.
I have been lurking here for a while but I don't know that I have ever posted.
I have been exploring cemeteries since I was a kid. Here are a few shots.
The first two were shot in a cemetery in Danville Virginia with my 4X5 Shen Hoa on Arista EDU 100 processed in HC-110. I used a 105mm Agfa Apotar off of an old Agfa Billy Record ll (6X9cm). The lens will not cover 4X5 at infinity but is fun for slightly closer shots.
The last one (in the snow), also in Danville, was with my Fulmer & Schwing 8X10, on some older Arista 100 (probably Ilford) shot at ISO 25, processed in HC-110 and shot with my 300mm Schneider Componon.

A long road... Rose Hill Cemetery (pioneer), Black Diamond Regional Preserve, Antioch, California.
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5376997096_6ca3aecf5f_b.jpg
Located at the confluence of three native American tribes: the Chupcan (Concord), Volvon (Clayton), and Ompin (Pittsburg) - all of which spoke spoke the Bay Miwok language - five coal mining towns thrived in the Black Diamond area from the 1860's thru the early 20th century: Nortonville, Somersville, Stewartville, West Hartley and Judsonville. A long road... Rose Hill Cemetery (pioneer), Black Diamond Regional Preserve, Antioch, California.
This was the location of California's largest coal mining operation and nearly four million tons of coal ("black diamonds") were removed from the earth.

I also like your choice of a framed presentation. Did you do that with a software program or is it the real McCoy?

The cemetery is in Half Moon Bay, California. This arrangement caught my eye. Someone has written the deceased's name on the top of the figure, apparently to prevent theft.

In remembrance
The title for this photo are the words on the wooden cross at the front. This photo was made at Tyne Cot cemetery near Zonnebeke in Belgium where 12,000 soldiers who died in the battles for Passendale (Paschendale) in 1917/1918 are buried.
November 11 2011 marks the spot of the 93th anniversary of the end of WW1.
I used a Cambo Wide with a super-symmar hm 120mm lens, Fuji Velvia 50.

Woodlawn Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Florida, with some of the earliest tombs dating from the middle of the 19th century. Cigar factories dominated the Tampa economy back then and for many years thereafter. Most of the factory workers were Cuban immigrants so there has always been a strong Latin culture in Tampa and that culture is reflected in the Woodlawn burials. There was - maybe still is - a custom in that community of including a photograph of the deceased in the tombstone. Some of these photographs survive in remarkable condition, others have disappeared but you can still see the place where the photograph used to be.
I photographed the cemetery off and on for several years, usually with an 8x10 Deardorff but occasionally with other cameras as well. These are scans of prints and so some of the technical quality of the original prints has been lost.

I have just started reading this site more. I usually just hit the B/S and leave.
There are lots of very good/great Photographers on this site.
But with this thread being fairly small, it is easy to go through it at one time.
Just noticed how this particular series of photographs stood out.
( esp. post 95)
Looking forward to seeing more.
