Prices seem awfully low. Many ikonic images have become within the price range of ordinary collectors. Not necessarily a good sign.

I just looked at the first few, mostly the Edward Westons. The ones I looked at were printed (and signed) by Cole Weston rather than Edward, with Edward's facsimile on the back, which makes a big difference in the prices.

Well, how about this: Pinchuk's purchase of Gursky's "99 Cent II Diptychon," for which he reportedly paid $3.3 million in 2007. That was two years ago, of course.

The economy took another dive 14 months ago... a big one. Two years ago was a much better economic situation... though still not that great.

I also was surprised at the price of White Deer (not surprised at the Serrano price, nothing about the price of Schlock for Shock surprises me any more). I thought it used to sell for more like $10,000 or so.
