Hello,

has anyone here a copy of the manual of this beautiful machine ?? I didn't succeed to find it anywhere... :(
I know it's very similar to the laborator 138 s but I need details to search for the proper Splitgrade system by rh design.

Please help me if you can...

thanx a lot, all the best to you.

The 139 has the same lamp house as the 138. The primary difference between these two enlargers is the base and column.

I had always thought the 139 was a 138 top that slid into a 184 8x10 lower end, but I am not 100 percent certain so I did not mention it, is that you thoughts on the 139 also Donald?

Yep, the 139 is simply a 138 with a much sturdier base (read: "Big bottom". I hope you're familiar with Spinal Tap. :) ) I got both machines and the 139 have now replaced the 138 which have been relocated to the garage.
For a splitgrade system I recon there's two ways to go. The simple one is to use grade 00 and grade 5 filters, either in the filter holder or below the lens. (I prefer below the lens, as changing filters while in the middle of an exposure may invoke visible double exposures or vibrations.) This is what I do at the moment.
The "neat" way is to find a used Ilford 500 MG system with a head and adapter made for the 138. Then you buy the RH special timer for the Ilford system which replaces the Ilford timer. That is the system I want to build for myself, but I cannot find the adapter for the Ilford head (nor the 4x5" mixing box).
There is really no noticeable difference in terms of picture quality, but the "neat" system may look and feel more streamlined (or whatever).

Interesting! I have a 183, which is a 5x7 head on an 8x10 base. So how is this different from the 139?

Yes, that is what my understanding is.

Lifted source material:

"The Durst 139G enlarger has all the same facilities as the 138S. It differs from the 138S only in that it has different base.

The lower part of the chassis is the double column type that is also used on the large heavy-duty 10x10” enlargers."
