Filter thread size for Angulon 90/6.8?

Can anyone please tell me the filter size for the Schneider Angulon 90mm f/6.8? This is an older lens...not the Super Angulon. With a ruler it appears to be aro und 40mm, but B+W makes a 39mm filter and a 40.5mm filter and I don't want to bu y the wrong one!

Some REALLY old Angulons from the 1930s might be different, but every post WWII coated Angulon I've seen takes 40.5mm filters. B+W and Horseman both make 40.5 - 52mm step-up rings. There is a greater selection of filters available in 52mm than 40.5mm and they often cost less, too. I use step-up rings on all my small er lenses so they care share one set of 52mm filters.

I suggest you buy just one each of the filters that you use, and use step up rings. Say for example that the largest filter thread on a lens you use is 77mm. Buy the next size up, an 82, and a bunch of step up rings to accommodate all of your other lenses. That way you'll never get a problem with vignetting (or rarely depending on the number of filters you use) and secondly you'll be saving on weight, and cost of filters if you use glass ones, because you'll only need one.
