The Midwest Large Format Asylum will have its September outing on the 19th in conjunction with the Iowa All-State Barn Tour. We intend to photograph, not only restored & preserved barns, but also barns that are participating in the barn quilt project (quilt patterns painted on the barns).

Our motel headquarters will be the AmericInn in Grundy Center, Iowa where we have a block of rooms reserved. Several of us will arrive on Friday afternoon, and will stay for part of Sunday before heading home.

If you are near central Iowa on the weekend of September 19th, we hope you will consider joining us. Plans are still being planned as we also intend to explore small Iowa towns and their restaurants. All formats of cameras are welcome, but remember, we move at a large format pace.

Updates can be found at www.midwestlargeformat.com in the FORUM section under OUTINGS. First time users will need to register, but it is free.

We now have a little more information on our September "barn crawl" outing to Grundy County Iowa on the weekend of September 19th:

We will meet for breakfast at Johnny Ray's Restaurant in Grundy Center, IA at 8:00 am on Saturday, September 19th. Johnny Ray's is next door to the AmericInn, which is the motel we have rooms blocked under the name "Midwest Photo."

The phone number for the AmericInn in Grundy Center, IA is (319) 824-5272 & the website is http://www.americinn.com/hotels/IA/GrundyCenter

Besides exploring the small towns in Grundy County, we intend on doing a barn crawl & photographing barns that are part of the Iowa barn quilt project. Over 60 barns in Grundy County have quilt patterns painted on them. More info can be found at:

If that was not enough, that weekend is also the date of the state barn tour of restored barns. More info about that program can be found at:

http://www.iowabarnfoundation.org/events.htm

If you live anywhere close to driving distance to Grundy Center, IA, we hope you will consider joining us. Several of us will head over on Friday and will head home on Sunday.

Again, you can view our complete planning and ramblings of the trip in the forum section at www.midwestlargeformat.com.

....another update on the September LF MWLFA outing to Iowa.....

Sounds like several of us will meet on Friday, September 18th, at the motel between 4 & 5 pm & then head out to do some shooting. We will be joined by local photographers who know the area. We may head to the bridge over the Iowa River which, they tell me, is the highest spot in the state. The day will end in Conrad, IA for some Iowa steaks & chops.

Hope that's making your mouth water & you will consider joining us if you live anywhere close by or within driving distance.
