Hi....I'm seriously thinking about dabbling in digital for the sole purpose of creating digital negatives for platinum/palladium and gum bichromate printing. What scanners would you recommend in the sub-$1000 range that would allow me to scan 5x7 and 6x7 medium format negs and get great results? I see the Epson V750 mentioned quite a bit but does it work well for 5x7? Thanks!

Prints on rough paper will show - and thus require - less resolution than inkjet and silver prints.

A consumer flatbed like the Epson, should do fine for Medium Format, unless you plan to make huge prints.

For Large Format like 5x7, you will have way more megapixels than you can use.

What Ken said! I shoot 5x7 and use a Microtek 1800 for making digital negs. It works great for that. If I had to buy a new scanner today I'd get the 750.

i use a epson 4870, the lid-lite is a "full plate"
they used to sell refurbished models on
the epson website ( where i got mine ) ..
it is a handful of years old
(if scanner years are like dogyears it is pushing 30 )
if the replacement's replacement's replacement is better than
this one, it should cost less than 500$ refurbished and with a warranty from epson ..

good luck!
