The Maryhill Museum of Art is showing Ansel Adams: Masterworks from July 18 to September 13 ( http://www.maryhillmuseum.org/special.html#adams ). The Maryhill Museum is in south central Washington state, just north of the Columbia River and Biggs, Oregon. It's about two hours east of Portland, near I-84 and Hwy 97, kind of in the middle of nowhere. But it is in a beautiful setting on a bluff above the Columbia and not far from the Columbia Gorge.

I just saw this exhibit. What they say is true: you really can't judge how good his prints are until you see them up close and personel. They really grab you.

A few things I noticed:
1) He didn't mind obvious burns and dodges.
2) He liked black.
3) He used single-weight paper. This was the most surprising thing about the exhibit.

For me, it was like being in a hallowed place. So much of my inspiration for photography came from his images. It still does. I may attempt a return trip next week.

Larry, you forget to mention that the Maryhill Winery is just down the road. This can make the trip to nowhere-land worthwhile.
