I've never found a photo backpack that fits and carries anywhere near as well as a high end top-loading backpack (Osprey, Arcteryx, etc.). Dedicated photo backpacks like Lowe et al are incredibly heavy, have poor space utilization, and substitute an excess of padding for ergonomic design. And IMHO Kelty's are an under-optimized design that hasn't been updated in decades.

A good middle ground that I've found and use is the combination top/panel-loading Z65 from Gregory. It fits about as much gear as the Kelty Redwing but IMO is far more comfortable. It won't replace any of my Osprey packs for backpacking, but I find it to be very good for hitting the trail with LF gear.

It's now $180 (25% off) at REI: http://www.rei.com/product/773915

I have the Mars 85 that looks very similar. It carries (I CARRY) 8x10 Dorff, 6 film holders, 3 lenses, adapter from Sinar to Dorff, Spot Meter, and miscellaneous other stuff. Works great!

This is the Kelty I bought; very comfortable and the back panel opens. It was on sale for $100.

Nice, but will they hold an 8x10, 4 lenses and 7 to 8 film holders?

I have the Mars pack also. I'm not sure of the model. Too lazy now to pull it out. It holds my 8x20 3 lenses 2 holders and misc. stuff and I can put it on my back and haul it. I used it in the redwoods in October and it worked great. Very comfy.
