The collective knowledge here is fantastic. Someone is sure to know the answer.

"The Last of the Mohicans" is currently playing on the Fox Movie Channel. I'm watching it for the second time tonight.

To the point: beginning with the scene in the Huron village where the English captain gets burt and shot, to the final battle scenes, the location is a huge granite face with waterfalls and a forested cliff on the opposite side of a steep valley. The credits give thanks to locations in North Carolina. Does anyone here know exactly where this granite face is? Photographed it? Can you shed some light on this location?

Thanks!

I think this is Linville Gorge. I used to do some rock-climbing in that area. It is a beautiful place.

I was there once when I lived in North Carolina and they'd turned it into a tourist trap, charging admission to see the cliffs. Chimney Rock State Park was it. Dante Spinotti shot that film and many others which look incredible. And Madeline Stowe, rrrrrrrrow!
