Here is my first photo taken on 4x5. It is the Barron Falls in flood.

I like the colours... there is a nice balance, often when people do large colour nature/landscapes the colours are completely of the walls.

Thanks... It looks a lot better on the actual print than it does on here, resized & compressed.

Very well seen! Congrats!

Queensland has certainly got its share of rain this season. I just checked out a few sites with images of the falls, and your interpretation is by far the most powerful of what I have found in my limited search.

Thank goodness for that anchor of green in the center. It lets me know the rest really is that dramatic. Very nice.

I like the composition a great deal, but it seriously needs some color correction - there's a strong green cast in the water. The highlights could also use additional tonal separation. Very nice first image!

Might be cool converted to B&W as well...

Like the others, I like the feeling of power, and your composition. I'd be pretty happy with it if this were mine. (At any point, not just as a first shot!)

If you think I'm going to post THAT photo, you're out of your mind.

Trying to remember which was the first one would be a challenge...that would have been back in 1979, give or take a year.:p

On my screen there is no green cast -- perhaps a slight blue that may combine with the muddy water in places to read as slightly green. But the water values are wonderful...all the seperation and detail that I want.

How's this now:

Please send me a 20" print, it will be easier for my old eyes to get a real good look at this first take.

My first LF print is not nearly as old as Vaughn's and was taken with the film emulsion facing the wrong way. Still produced a print but nothing like your first.
Well done and well seen.

Forgot to mention, at the time i took the photo i made two exposures, the second pic i posted was scanned from the other tranny.

I prefer the first image you posted first, as it is a little mistier and makes me think a little bit more about what I am seeing -- as well as making the rock in the center stand out more.

Heres another one of the "Barron Falls" in Far North Queensland, Australia. I had to climb right down to the bottom with the backpack & tripod at 5:30 am. Interested in some feedback.

Nice entry!
I think my first 4x5 frame was a salt shaker or something equally aggressive to shoot.
It looks like you are hooked now too! :)

Gorgeous work! And a first shot ... amazing!

Regarding a thread for first shots:
My first - late 60's - was a color close-up on 8x10 of a beautiful Queen Anne's Lace growing in the ditch beside a dirt mountain road. The result was a disaster, complete with some image cutoff from the bellows shade and over-exposed. Same day, same box of film, Lady Luck produced a really nice image of Mt. Baker in WA state that ended up as a HUGE mural (commercially done) on the wall of an auditorium. Then there was my first B&W, also 8x10, that I've kept as an example that I had so much to learn yet.
