using jobo 2500 tanks manually?

Hi,

I was thinking of getting a jobo 2500 tank for 5x7 sheets, but it appears that it only works when mounted in their processors.

Is there a way to use them manually? The ccp2 is not very expensive, but I don't have that money right now.

Or maybe the Yankee brand tanks on bhphotovideo.com can be used manually?

You can use the 2500 series tanks (other than the shorter 2521) on a Unicolor or Beseler motor base which you can usually find on eBay for $40 or less. I would suggest one that has reversing capability.

You can rotate the tank manually on the counter, or, better still, in a tray filled with tempered water. Change the direction every few turns. That's what I do with mine. No problem whatsoever.

5x7 hey? I have a Jobo 2553 and 2509 reel and a 3010 Expert for 4x5. BTW, the same tank appears as a 2551 also. Same tank, different lids. To the best of my knowledge, Jobo doesn't make a reel for 5x7 film. They did make print drums that will accept 5x7 format in film or paper. They also make a 5x7 Expert drum.

Beseler or Uniroller bases are too cheap and work too well not to use them. You will need the longer tanks to span both rollers. I use the 3010 Expert for sheet film. Even though I have the 2553 tank and reel also, the Expert tank is so much easier to use. In fact, I used it the last two nights and will use it again tonight. It's fun to have so much film to develop.

Bottom line: I use Jobo tanks for 35mm, 6x7 and 4x5 on Beseler and Unicolor bases for all of my black & white processing. No worries!

You can invert a 2500 tank. But they use lots of chemicals in inversion mode. I've no idea how you'd use 5x7 in one.

The obvious choice is a 2830 or 2840 print drum. Basically the same tank but with paper ridges inside. You'd still want to spin the tank. Floating it in a tray works fine even if it's messy and boring.

Beseler motor base: I got mine free with a darkroom
Uniroller motor base: $20 in a local camera store.
Jobo 2840 print drum: $18 in the same store.

The deals are out there. You have to look and get lucky sometimes.

Surely somebody you processes 5x7 will be along with more ideas.
