To mark the centenary of Karsh's birth, the main Ottawa newspaper has put together a portfolio of his photographs of local people. The focus is on work that Karsh did in the 1930s, before he became well-known. Perhaps worth a look: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/karsh/index.html

Well now, Karsh did a cat picture. I feel validated now! I can shoot my cats with abandon.

As a resident of Ottawa (and former resident of Newfoundland, but only visited New York), I did find this quite fascinating. Thanks, r.e.!

Thanks for the link, r.e.

I noted that he had a Commercial Ektar mounted on the camera shown on the home page of the feature.

Very neat link. It's interesting to see the older photographs. One can kind of piece together his development as a photographer.

I remember seeing some online thing about his famous portraits....the "Grumpy Churchill" story was very funny and an amazing moment...
thanks, r.e.!
