You have gotten lovely tones and color before, and I am sure they would translate beautifully into macro compositions.

I'm dialing in some color corrections (hide) and then I'll have some images over in the MF thread soon I hope.

I'll stick with 1600 for pushing 120 film, and I'll have to find out if the 35mm will tolerate 1600 or whether that ought to be limited to 800.

Old_Dick: Horrible, isn't it? Yet the 120 at 800 and 1600 is so smooth. It might be that 35mm XP2 would look decent at 800/1600 but 3200 is yucky, and being just half a stop underexposed means no picture. My 35mm lenses are fast enough that it isn't really an issue, but it's nice to know this is possible for slower MF lenses.

From one brand of questionable reliability to another. Several years ago I had a Cherokee and it was a total piece of unreliable junk, but I loved it. I've had a thing for Jaguars for a long time.

Jags were not always so. I had a Mk.V in the 60's... now that was a time when they really made cars. I think from the 40s to the 80s was Jaguar's heyday. I wouldn't know about modern models - never could afford them. Good luck Pippa with the Cherokee, they don't have a good reputation in Oz.

That Cherokee is actually a Wrangler, but also of doubtful repute. I guess women buy cars in a completely different way to men.

I like the V12 E-type - possibly one of the most beautiful cars ever made - but they are definitely money-pits. The current F-type is a great car to drive.

I drove a F-type at the JLR Honiley race track (along with some older cars). It's automatic gearbox is prescient. It's fast and grips like mad. I can hardly wait ten years till used ones are in my price range. I have a 6 cyl E-type right now that is not as bad a money pit as the V12. I have a 05 XJR too which is pretty fantastic still but it's starting to leak oil (no suprise) but to fix the leak would require 12 hours of labor, so I think I'll let it drip and check on it more often. My Cherokee after 120,000 miles was badly rusted, failed brakes multiple times, failed springs, engine sputtering. I drove the jeep in a snow storm for three hours once with no brakes; I wasn't going to run into anyone because nobody else was on the road!

Great work with the XP2 Chris; very interesting results. I haven't used used XP2. I did use some XP many years ago and had it developed commercially in C41. XP2 seems to be an extraordinary film for exposure latitude and grain, and from Ilford's published curves seems better at handling high brightness ranges than many silver films. Must try some.

I wouldn't usually post these here but I feel like my use of large format has begun influencing my way of composition in digital So thought I would share it because it's quite a classic style image, I think,

I printed it 11x14 in black & white and took it to the framers but kinda wish I kept it this sepia tone as I think it works better, I never go for sepia.

Snapped on a full frame DSLR with a 200mm lens @ f/2.8, love that longer focal length and wide aperture.

Thanks buddy. I very rarely shoot digital these days, mostly out of necessity but the camera sees little use but it's a good feeling knowing knowledge and practice ive gained from large format has a positive impact on smaller format use.

It's a Heribert Wacker damascus. Very soon I must start selling the straights, which is going to be a chore as there's hundreds of them!

Wacker steel! Yum. Yesterday was a 6/8 Wacker 1/4 grind Spanish point in blond horn scales. 'Have a few Robert Williams customs, but I think the Wacker usually outshaves them. Too bad - selling. 'Hope you're just thinning the herd & keep the favorites.

Very true, Renato. The restoration efforts are hardly worth the time, but it was the first hobby that more than paid for itself. Buying dry stones: God's way of telling you that you have too much money. :) Or to borrow from Glen (gssixgun) on SRP: synthetic stones are a science. Natural stones are a romance.

From this morning at Säntis, a 2502m summit in the Appenzell alps, looking across north-east Switzerland to Austria and Liechtenstein. From t-shirt weather 1000m lower, the temperature was 0° centigrade at the summit, and the wind was close to hurricane force, with windchill making it feel like -15° centigrade. Shortly after this photograph was taken, the summit was covered in cloud for the rest of the morning;

Austin, I like the cat/panther/animal playing with the crane. Image feels a bit dark, but it fits your style that way. =)

Ken, neat to see the slight shift in style/tones from the armchair quoted above to the more recent 'in the kitchen' image. I am enjoying that slight boost in contrast and the cropped edges of things.

If i was to have one lens and one lens only on my 5dmkII it would be that little 50mm 1.8 such awesome little lenses for the price. I initially (re-)purchased a 5dmkII with the intention of just having that lens on it as a run-around.

Alex I have the 50/1.8 and it did me well but the bokeh was a bit `spotty ' and I ended up with an old pentax super takumar 50mm 1.4. It's really a great lens. I use the original 5d but it should work on the mkii. If the mirror hits, there are some shims you can buy off Amazon to make it work.

I couldn't agree more Alex! It's the lens that stays on the camera body 99% of the time and I have never been let down by it. Its a fantastic performer and I recall that I paid less that $100 for which just cannot be beat.

Hi Peter,

The cloud did not need much work in PS beyond the usual ACR adjustments. The exposure is reasonably good. There are some tiny areas (slightly blown out) that won't respond to highlight adjustment. However, they are barely discernible and help add brilliance to the cloud.

The problem is the dark gray area under the giant cloud - it's very murky and dark. The smaller clouds within that area get lost. Bringing them out requires careful work. In the process, those lightened areas and clouds can become somewhat grainy or "noisy" if overworked. I'm trying to improve on that problem.

When necessary, I make use of luminosity masking in PS and find it provides excellent targeting and control.

The urge to experiment is upon me again. Running low on HC-110, but with several bottles of Rodinal equivalent in the fridge, I decided it was time to figure out XP2 in Rodinal. I know I can get great results if I expose at ISO200 and develop in 1+100 Rodinal for one hour, but what about something quicker? Looking around I found a blog with examples of ISO200 in Rodinal 1+50 for 9 minutes (here (https://iftimestoodstill.net/the-50-roll-project-page-five/)) so I figured by halving the exposure for ISO400 I ought to increase the development by one third, ie 12 minutes. Well, I got a set of rather low contrast negatives, very suitable for scanning, but not so easy for wet prints. It needs more time, but that gets boring. I might try 1+25 for nine minutes next. Curiously, the film lost its characteristic purple base after being developed this way, which would make wet printing simpler.

Thank you. This was my first roll of this cheap Agfa film, and I had read it was rebranded Fuji Superia, but now I'm sure it isn't. A very warm, red film, and the colours you see are after I reduced the saturation of red and orange slightly. Especially necessary for skin tones:

Hammock camping is the only way to go when there are trees. I've been using them for 10 years and have all the underquilts, tarps, and doodads but haven't looked at the latest tech. It's been an evolving industry and its a great way to sleep. When my ex and I split she got the bed. So I slept in a hammock for a year before getting a real bed. . . .

I agonized over specs, especially weight, for a long time before settling on a JRB hammock/tarp kit that clocks in at under 3 pounds. Trying to keep my pack weight around 30 pounds, give or take a few, including camera gear. This evening I have definitely felt the need for an underquilt, which I didn't think was a big deal until the wind picked up! I have a warm blanket that is about the right size that has a rolled end for a line so I might try to MacGyver that into an underquilt rather than spend more money!

Yes a uq is the shit. You can use a pad but I had trouble staying on it and the comfort wasn't as good. I've made plenty of my own. I was there when the bridge hammock came to life. I like my Warbonnet hammocks and uqs. There are SO many companies out there now. Check out Dutch gear if you haven't. I was also there when we fiddled with new ways of fastening to trees. Other than that I've been out of that market and don't really know WTH is going on any more. All that happened on hammock forums.
