Use Extra Ink Cartridges for my 4000?

I was given a bunch of ink cartridges for my Epson 4000 by someone who's own 4000 bit the dust. I've had them in a bag for several weeks.

Is there something that I need to do with the connection to the printer. I neglected to cover the openings with tape or something, so there might be dry ink there, etc. I'm reluctant to use them, until I know that it's OK, or until I clean the connections, or something.

What would you recommend?
