is there a setting that defines if the film is a negative film, or a transparency? On the Epson scanners, you have to tell it positive/negative, B&W/Color.

I have three settings one is reflective the other is positive film and negative film
before scanning I check them to make sure I have it set right, and there is another place to make sure you have it set for B&W or Color film ! but still it stays as Negative B&W not positive B&W ? thanks Daniel

You want to keep the scan as a negative & then convert in PS under image/adjustments/invert - then you will have a positive image to work from.

That will certainly give you a positive image but I've never heard of a scanner that couldn't produce a positive image from a negative. It's going to be very difficult for you to edit the image in the scanner if you have to work from a negative. If it were me I'd want to find the source of the problem (assuming there is one, as there almost certainly is since your scanner has both a positive and a negative setting and if it was intended to produce a negative image from a negative there'd be no need for the negative setting, negatives could just be scanned as positives) so that I could use the scanner software to make at least some basic adjustments to the image in the scanner.

That's not correct. After scanning the negative a positive image should be displayed, unless for some reason the scanning software is scanning a positive B&W image.

i am not familiar with your scanner or driver.
but ... can you "preview" as a positive ?
does it change the preview from positive back to negative when you hit scan ?
you might get a copy of vuescan if your drivers doen't work as you like.
i think you can try it before you buy it.

I was referring to a page from a while back:

http://www.computer-darkroom.com/tutorials/tutorial_6_1.htm

For your scanner check this page at Microtek for info & perhaps email them for help:

Good luck & sorry if I steered you wrong.

You can download and try Vuescan (http://www.hamrick.com/) for free, but your scans will have a watermark. At least you'll be able to test against another piece of software to see if the problem is with the scanner or your software.

Nio Problem , Lee , I dumped my old version of Microtec and reloaded a new one and the problem is still there, I'll look at the tutorial and give Microtec a buzz : if all else fails: Lauren
