Dear Colleagues,

I made various scans from this 5x7" negative (Kodak Portra 100T) on my Epson V700, and where the wall is gradually growing darker, there appear these strange blotches; you can see them creep up purple and greenish from the lower left to the upper right when you compare the detail from the negative scan and the contact print, where all is perfectly smooth. How come? What can I do to get rid of that?

IŽd really appreciate your good advice! Thanks!
Michael

Oh yes - these are no newton rings (I use a film holder). I used 16bit mode. Uncompressed, the file looks no bit better.

Scanner? Software? I find it useful to make and keep around a sheet of film exposed evenly to a middle gray for trouble shooting these kind of problems.

Problem solved! I scanned the negative with the scanner set to slide mode and reversed it in Photoshop. All is smooth as butter. Looks like PS is smarter than the Epson scanning software.

Hmmm...I've never had that problem scanning negs with my 700.
