My flatbed scanner comes with some very thin plastic black masks. I'd like to make some more. Does anyone have a suggestion as a good material to use for this, and where the material might be acquired?

Now, no need for anyone to get sniffy-
scanner talk tends to bring out the worst in people,
and anyone straying from the one true path is likely to get sand kicked in their face-

I had to make a mask for 6x12 recently- (for a consumer flatbed)
and I went down the Imacon route-
A piece of magnetized vinyl, the kind usually used for vehicle signs on one side,
and the bottom of a biscuit tin on the other-

Make sure there's a responsible adult around if you're using anything sharp...

Peter see if there is a Tap Plastics store near you and take in an example. They have a really good selection of plastic materials.

OTOH, the main purpose of those masks is to space individual images for batch scanning. They are part of preset built in templates. You can also create your own custom templates. OTOH, if you are only scanning a single piece of film just slap it down on the glass.

Hi Joseph, thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Joe, I'm afraid there isn't a TAP palstics near me. I really wish there was!

Hi Ted, you haven't found stray light to be an issue?
