well mine were done with 35mm. Actually my 4 images were a very important lesson for me in learning to see. I walked round those buildings for half an hour before I started to see what was there to photograph. Then suddenly there was a flood of possibilities.
Funny how that happens.

"Wabi now connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object.
Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs.
According to Koren, wabi-sabi is the most conspicuous and characteristic feature of what we think of as traditional Japanese beauty and it "occupies roughly the same position in the Japanese pantheon of aesthetic values as do the Greek ideals of beauty and perfection in the West."

For people who can't even hit the side of the barn, this one poses some additional challenges.
There's a great dilapitated stone barn up the road I'd like to shoot, but the property looks a bit dodgy. Wouldn't wanna run into some kind of Deliverance\Texas Chainsaw Massacre scenario.

Something about barns that's hard to pass on...
Perhaps that something is a feeling of balance between Man and Nature. As the buildings age, the balance point shifts away from Man, back towards Nature. At some point, they become... just right. Like the ones we see here.

Man, does that one have a mystery dimension to it !
It has that dimension in reality. I was totally in awe of the way all of these components came together, especially in light of the fact that the architect probably had this in mind in designing the structure.

Thats a beautiful image. I wonder what this might look/feel like at night?

Sandy,

It's amazing!
Armando
Hi Armando,
Thanks for your nice comment.
It is an HDR image, but done with a Fuji GA645zi and 220 film. I made three exposures, one at meter indication, one at two stops under, and one at two stops over. This was on color negative film. I scanned the negatives and combined the files with the Merge to HDR option of Photoshop CS3 Extended.
The contrast range of this scene was huge, and this look could not have been achieved in color with either film or DSLR with one exposure. No filter of any type was used in exposing the negatives, except for a UV filter that I keep over the lens for protection.
The hardest part was to align the negatives since merge to HDR is incredibly picky about image size. I managed to do it but it was so complicated not sure I can repeat it.

Thanks Sandy,
The shot(s) is magnetic. It almost feels like the light is coming from the moon and not the sun. I'm not familiar with HDR but the picture is quite an invitation to explore it.

Astia I thought I saw some tripod holes in the ground:p (second picture actual sunrise light following an amazing evening of storms through the Tetons)
I've seen prints that were rendered to have this kind of striking light. The way the light would open up across the mountains and ranch was pretty amazing. I was driving by after noticing the weather change and stopped here.
