Sticky Harrison Changing Tents

Does anybody out there have any experience or a remedy for Harrison tents when the rubberized coating they use for light tightness starts to get sticky and nasty- my web searches so far havent indicated that there is any cure and that Harrison doesnt seem to want to recognize their problem if the item is past the warranty.

I quite love the tent, though. Are there other tents that people like more for 4x5?

Perhaps Harrison got a bad batch of raw materials for assembling the tents. I have a tent that is 8 years old and it is still as nice as the day I bought it. I have used the tent all over the USA and I store it in one of my equipment cases which maintains a moderate temp inside. Maybe the cool storage location helps.

I used a borrowed Harrison tent well more than ten years ago and loved it. However it was very expensive and I ended up buying a Photoflex tent that's kind of spherical. It wasn't as spacious but I am still using it, albeit occasionally now. I don't know what else is on the market at present or whether the one that I have is still in production and of the same design.

Calumet make their "Changing Room" (http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/RM1000/) - I've got one as they're quite a bit cheaper than the Harrison and I could get the whole 4x5 camera in if needed. They don't need assembly as such - just let go of it once it's out of the sack and it'll spring into shape.

Unfortunately, they don't collapse down as small as the Harrison but you can't have everything...

I tried the Calumet and Redwings and came back to the Harrison, knock on wood. There is another high end changing tent on the market, I think B&H sells it, but it was even more $ than the Harrison and I think it is more aimed at the movie industry.

That's probably the Shadowbox. There was one on e*** and it went for a quite high price. Looks taller than the Harrison (which I use) which would be nice.

a friend of mine has a JOBO tent that a short 5 year old could use as a pup tent in the woods. Mucho dinero tambien.

They are expensive new. I got one off ebay once (quite cheap) - the medium size I think. My three year old used to crawl in and use it as a tent when I wasn't looking...

It was handily taller than the Harrison I now have (no sticky problem - touch wood), which made it better for 8x10 holders. But it's made of a nylon lined sort of thick weave canvas. It was more bulky and heavier when packed. But possibly more durable in the long run
