Hi All

could anybody suggest a company in the UK for drum scanning? I have tried BPD and I am not convinced that their Imacon is getting the maximum out of my slides

Many Thanks

Guy

Guy, there are probably lots of good places, but I've had excellent results from Bayeux, www.bayeux.co.uk (http://www.bayeux.co.uk). I have no connection with them other than as a customer.

Although I've not used him (I've got my own drum scanner) you could try Richard Kenward at www.precision-drum-scanning.co.uk. He is one of the regular contributors to the Scan-Hi-End Yahoo Group and seems to know his stuff!

Alternatively why not have a look at Spectrum, again I've not used them but they seem to have lots of well known clients? http://www.spectrumphoto.co.uk/press.html

Thank you both

- does anyone have a view over the relative merits of actual drum scanning versus the use of Imacon scans for print sizes up to 30x20 or archival purposes? Any issues from damaged transparencies from an actual drum scanning process?

Hi,
I have used Richard's service at precision-drum-scanning and can strongly recommend his service. Absolutely excellent, very good communication, great scans.
I could compare the scans made by him to my own scans on my Imacon Flextight 646 (from identical films). The drum scan are noticeable better with regard to smoothness, detail, and shadows. No problems with damaged transparencies so far.
I would say, give it a try and make a decision on your own.

Hi Guy,

If you still require scanning services I would like to put myself forward.
I have over 25 years scanning and retouching and have a number of drum scanners at my disposal.
Scanners on and offsite ICG 370HS, Heidelberg Tango XL, Dainippon Screen 1030with negacolour, Eurocore.

I am based in Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire.

Regards,

Paul Miller

You could have a look at this chap http://cheapdrumscanning.com/ not used him, but prices seem good. Once I've exposed enough film to make it worthwhile developing E6 in the 1l tetenal kit, drum scans are what I'll be looking for.
