that's pretty interesting. what is it ... a different auction format?
this could do for christie's and sothebey's what napster did for the record companies.

eBay has been doing this for at least a year now. Christie's and Southebey's participate AFAIK. Phillips, the auction house listed is one of the world's large, well known houses if memory serves.

Sotheby's has some sort of formal partnership with eBay, if I'm not mistaken.

As mentioned above, eBay has been doing this with the major auction houses for quite a long time now...

Re: the auction above, I was surprised at the relatively low price estimates...many well-known images in small editions to possibly be had for under $10,000!

What an amazing array of beautiful photographs - including one from our own (or is that our ex ?) Chris Jordan.

how interesting. i guess it makes sense ... those guys are smart enough to jump on new opportunities.

now if i get high enough bids on my elvis lava lamp and inside-the-egg egg scrambler, i can turn those dollars around for a Paul Strand print.

That Paul Strand print of the Taos Church is a bargain. Just seeing the negative of it was what turned Ansel Adams from music to photography.

Just think - in his entire life Edward Weston probably didn't make as much money as his nude will likely sell for.
