View Full Version : Connecting to a Leafscan 45

Just received my leafscan 45 and (of course) it did not come with a cable and my XP machine does not have a SCSI card. I'll be running the thing with Silverfast, so a SCSI should work. Just don't know which card to get, and which cable. Has anyone used the Leafscan with XP and Silverfast? Any info is appreciated!

James, be sure you get information that is exact and tested on the proper SCSI card. That can be the kicker with any SCSI based scanner setup and there are many cards from which to choose. If you have no luck finding a cable PM me and I will see if I have one lying around.

Thanks for the offer, Ted. I might take you up on it.

I guess I need to know where to start looking for that kind of information. It's an unusual situation, when someone asks what question to ask. But, the manual that came with the machine assumes that I have a Mac (mid 90's vintage) with the correct connection, and that I am smarter than I actually am.

I know there is one or two of you out there who is (was) using the Leaf with Windows XP. There was some talk of using the Adaptec 2906 for various older scanners other than the Leaf. Will this likely work for the Leafscan 45?

I have a Leafscan 45 but use it with OS MAC 10.3.9 and SilverFast via a SCSI to Firewire connection. If you have a SCSI Leafscan (some early ones for Windows used a GPIB/RS232 interface) it will be in the form of SCSI-2. Unfortunately I don’t know how to connect the Leaf to a PC running Windows but you can probably get an answer to this question by posing the question on the Leafscan group on Yahoo.

Another source of information is http://www.leafstuff.com/. From here you can download various operating and service manuals.

Thanks Sandy,

I beleive it is a scsi scanner with two ports on the back ("in and out"), both 50 pin.

Leafstuff is where I bought it, he told me to ask Silverfast...

This is going to be a fun ride.

jamie,

these guys have just about every type of scsi cable you could need:
http://www.cablestogo.com/categories.asp?cat%5Fid=1200

and if they don't have the right combination of tips, they'll make one for you. there's a ton of useful info on scsi there... this page is especially helpful:
http://www.cablestogo.com/resources/scsi.asp?

i've no affiliation with them, i just found them when i was trying to hook up my scanner (and knew nothing about SCSI).

good luck!!

You appear to have the SCSI version of the Leaf. The SCSI In is a 50 pin SCSI-2 female , SCSI Out is 50 pin SCSI-2 male. If the Leaf is the only SCSI device you probably want to get a terminator for the SCSI OUT.

If you have a Firewire port on your PC you can also use a SCSI to Firewire adaptor with SilverFast. http://www.silverfast.com/product/Leaf/356/en.html
I use a Microtech SCSI to Firewire adaptor, which is same as Belkin I believe.
