What is Art?

If you have to ask, I'm sure you can't afford it. Grin.

Art is what I shoot now that I'm no longer a professional photographer.

genius.

it's funny ... i was just thinking about dogs playing poker the other day and did some research (you know, random google searches on the employer's dime). it seems the guy who did the dogs playing poker is not the same guy that did the dogs playing pool. who knew.

Didn't Ruth Bernhard once say never to use the word "shoot" when taking a photograph?

Didn't Ruth Bernhard once say never to use the word "shoot" when taking a photograph?

But Brett Weston made a point of saying it...

Ever notice that the only people who ask "what is Art" are photographers?

If you have to talk about a photo before viewers appreciate it, it is Art. If viewers get it without the BS, it is good photography.

"Just leaving your mark on the world".

That is too cool. The guy is definitely an artist.

What isn't art?

I tightly couple the notion of art with the notion of creation and in my mind it's all art if indeed creation is expressed to be experienced. The art experience is completely personal whether expressed or experienced.

Then again, I have no real training in art so who am I to suggest such a notion?

p.s. the video was excellent
