I was just looking at some photos of a Toyo 45CF and it looks like it folds up the way the old press cameras do....that is, it looks like the front standard stays upright and simply slides backward into the rear box. Like a Crown Graphic for example. Is this correct?

The camera folds up like a feld camera.

If you are thinking about getting into large format there are several articles i the Free Articles section of the View Camera web site that will be helpful.

There are also some workshops in N. Calif. that might be helpful. Check the extension departments at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz or I am doing a workshop Sept 7-9 in Monterey.

Good Luck,

Hi Brad,

I had an opportunity to hold the camera 2 years ago at Photo Plus. I opted not to get one because of its limitations, construction, and handling. You may wish to look at the review article below:

Thanks Steve and Rich. A member brought his Toyo 45CF by for me to handle. It is as I suspected. The CF folds up like the crown graphic and not like a field camera. That is to say, the front standard stays upright and simply slides backward into the rear box. It seemed to me to be a much up dated Crown Graphic with all the little things that I did not like about the Crown fixed...wonderful really.

Hmmm...I need to sell off six or eight of the 35mm SLRs that lay un-used in the cupboard and find somebody willing to part with their plastic toyo.

The Toyo folding cameras are indeed updated Graphics.

Didn't Toyo buy some of the Singer Graflex tooling when they closed, or something along those lines?

The Toyo Super Graphic was basically a Graflex Super Graphic with a few slight improvement (and metric threads I think)

Made with all the Graflex tooling

You can still clearly see those roots in the Toyo 45A/AX etc series

You can still get Graphic lensboards and Graphic-to-Toyo-View adapter boards new from Toyo.
