As a group that "lives and dies by light" if I may be so dramatic, I thought it appropriate to wish a bunch of photographers a Happy Solstice. Please consider yourselves so wished. :D

Happy Day to you too.

Now let's all make a picture today.

Probably the worst time of the year for landscape photography (in the American Southwest). Sun too high, contrast too high, no clouds.... Give me Winter Solstice anyday.

Summer solstice = usable light for 23 1/2 hours every day.

Winter solstice = usable light 1/2 hour every day - except that it's raining in that half hour.

Summer is NICE. :)

How about using the bright sunlight to illuminate an indoor still life?

Dead right Ole, however the rain is welcome in drought ridden Australia. Back to the darkroom, it's that time of year!

Blessings to all who compose with light!

Ole, you've got me beat with your 23.5 hours! Still, I was able to photograph in a field of wild irises at midnight (f22; 1sec). I hope everyone has a great summer!

Eric, I spent last weekend in northern Norway - 2000 km north of where I live. But i'm back home for the solstice, so I won't get midnight sun here.

BTW, I like the winter solstice too: It's my birthday! :D
