Hello, I am considering buying a used ICG 350i drum scanner. Does anyone have experience with it? Will I be able to use it on current Mac laptops (running OS X 10.4.9)? Will there be software problems? If something fails, what price range will it be for repairs? Any advce is deeply appreciated!

You might want to contact ICG directly through their website:

http://www.icg.ltd.uk/

Also, Genesis Equipment, or other pre-press equipment companies might be more local sources for some items. There are also some resellers of drum scanning oil, or even replacement drums. However, start at the company, then get more local.

Ciao!

ICG is an English company. The scanners are first rate. I believe that the current version of the software runs on OSX and supports 16 bit file saves. Easiest thing to do is to check with ICG at the address Gordon supplied.

There may be someone on this side of the pond that can service the ICG scanners. Regardless, shipping a drum scanner is always an expensive thing to do. Service tends to be expensive because there's hardly any volume - trained service techs. are few and far between.

You might want to consider asking this question over at the yahoo Scan Hi-End group which has a fair number of drum scanner people:

There are some ICG users participating in this group who may give you more direct experience.

Yes, the current version of the software runs on OSX bu tit is only the very mos trecent versions of th software that do ... that is versions that have come out since, I believe 2005. Also, only these more recen versions scan in 16bit mode.

Cost of repairs is an impossible question to answerwithout know what sort of specific repair you are iterested in info on. To get an idea on the cost of refurbishing a drum, as an example, contact Prazio. You would be well advised to call the company in Englad and have a chat.....they are very easy to talk with and will givce you all the info you want. They may even be able to give you info on the specific machine you are considering if you ahve its serial number as this is a very low volume item ... they probably manufacture less than 5 a year.
