AGFA Duoscan T2500 scanner

Anyone familiar with this thing? How does it compare to the current generation of Epson flatbeads?

It will outperform ALL of the current generation Epson flatbeds as long as it is proper working order. The Duoscan 2500 is a rebranded Microtek 2500 (that is 2500 ... the original,not the 2500f) with software provided by Agfa. I have discussed the use of Microtek software on this machine and other rebranded Microtek machines with Microtek engineers and they say it can't be done. It has been awhile since i had the conversation but I believe the use of the Microtek firmware is crippled in the Firmware ... you can use Silverfast though.

I've got a T1200, and it's probably the best "bang for the buck" in LF film scanning. Glassless negative holders for 35mm, 120, 6x9 and 4x5"; glass holder for all other sizes up to 8x10". VueScan works great with it too. The T2500 has twice the resolution of mine.

The T1200 is also a rebranded Microtek scanner, IIRC it is the same as the Microtek 1100. FWIW tests on the 2500 have shown it to have ~ 2500 spi resolution and a DMax that exceeds any of the 'prosumer' scanners.

I had one of those for years and its a good scanner if you have a SCSI connection or can add one easily. I'm not so sure its better than (for instance) an Epson 4870 or 4990. If you can get it really cheap and then get it running without spending a lot on it then go for it.
