Yesterday I turned on my scanner for the first time since returning from living in the tropics and have noticed a fungus growing on the glass on the inside of the scanner. The scanner has no obvious screws or clips for taking it apart. I was hoping that someone might have done this before and could tell me which bit unclips first, with the aim of getting the glass out.

Go to the Yahoo Epson Scanner forum. In the archives is a tutorial on taking apart and cleaning a 4870, I think. The proceedure though is essentailly the same for the 3200, 4870 and 4990. I have cleaned all of them. It is easier with two people though I have done it by myself. Bring plenty of lint free tissues, a 30% denatured alcohol/water mix, plenty of canned air and a flashlight to back light the dust.
