Wonderful. I hope the autologous stem cell transplant is working as well as can be hoped for!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, she is doing quite well. Some issues still remain of course, but we are grateful for what we got - progression seems to be stopped and bunch of stuff reverted. She is going for 2nd year checkup in October. Unfortunately I can't come this time - changed job in may and things are weird slightly.

Some really strong images so far this month! Really enjoyed each image so far.

Here's a shot of my wife from yesterday, inspired by a John Singer Sargent portrait (although its not a strict homage.)

This was one of only two frames I shot with the hot lights instead of strobes, HP5+ rated at 800, 210mm Nikkor @5.6.

Do portraits need to be of people? I'm weening myself off Lightroom. I've been using Linux since kernel 1.3.0.4. Image editing has come a long way. I just learned how to tame the highlights with DarkTable. Still a little hot on the hightlights but the challenge was trying to shoot this fatbutt before she got up and got comfy somewhere else. Kinda hard to do in a crowded apartment but I finally got a shot!

Not familiar with this lens, so a quick google search yields a $8,999.00 lens on ebay. ZOINKS!!

The reality is they (Xenotar 150/2.8) are more like $700-1000 in barrel, and maybe $1200-2500 in shutter. Nice shots too with them, btw! (optimum aperture for this lens is f/4 according to schneider)

Thanks. Interesting about the optimum aperture. These were wide open, I don't yet have the proper aperture scale for the lens so I don't know where f4 is yet!

do you have it in shutter? If so, just label 2.8 at the top aperture, and the rest should be about right going down from there, a stop at a time.

Robclarke
12-Sep-2017, 14:18
Yes it's in a compur shutter but obviously from another lens the scale starts from f8.6

spacing of stops should be the same, easy to just relabel. I have one of mine in a Compur 2, from a symmar, I think it starts at 5.6, but I just mentally revise to be appropriate.

Hi Folks,
These were shot at a recent shared studio shoot:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4412/36511131644_9c82d7b15c_c.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/XCn6pJ)
Andrew (https://flic.kr/p/XCn6pJ) by Ashley Hoff (https://www.flickr.com/photos/ashhoff/), on Flickr

All shot with the same setup:
Rig: Toyo 45A, Caltar II E 210 F6.8 lens on Foma 200
Lighting: 2 Softboxes in a clamshell configuration

The intent on the day was to try different filters.
Dave was shot with a green filter. The effect wasn't as strong as I was expecting, but I think the lighting configuration flattened out the skin a bit
Dannielle was shot with a red filter.
Andrew was shot with no filter.

As for the studio shoot, a local studio has come up with an interesting concept. Once a month they run a meet, where a group of up to 16 photographers can come in and use the space for either $10 (space only) or $20 (with models, generally amateurs - that was the Belly Dancers that I shot last month). Unfortunately, they don't have any lighting equipment to use, but the whole idea is to bounce ideas off of other like minded photographers (there are enough of us with gear to share). I have to admit that I have really enjoyed myself and really like the concept!

Cheers and thanks for looking!

A bit of tilt on the front standard. For the tree photo, it was a pretty extreme tilt. I wanted that one to fit in with a few other photos I've done that are similar.

OK, thanks. I know interesting effects can be achieved with tilts. The last photo as well - the depth of field and where it is - very cool.

Thanks for looking and commenting.

The Foma was exposed between EI 100 and 120.
It was processed in Rodinal, 1:50, at 20 degrees C as follows:
5 mins pre-wash
10 mins. Agitate slowly for 1 min then 2 slow agitates every minute.
Processed in a Paterson Tank, using a Mod 54 reel. 6 sheets were processed at the same time.

Been sick all weekend and then had a developing/scanning marathon. 4 shots of 4x5 looks terrible, not sure what I did but all looked a little more like film base. At least my 35mm stuff looked great. So I revisited Vuescan on my Linux box and did a scan of an older image. This time she's flat on the AN glass finally.

300mm Ektar
Racked out almost max I think.
Patio light to the right of the right eye.
Reflector on bottom which I think it gave it a flare on the lens. Can't figure out how to darken the bottom 1/3 of this on Darktable software. Oh well, it's about the 4th time I did this neg and I think I finally like it.

I've heard it said more than once that art is not about answering questions, but about asking them.

And in these strange and uneasy times, there's one question that seems more important than all others.

A question I've sometimes asked, a question I'm sure most all of you have asked at one time or another.

A question some of us ask every day.

Perhaps the greatest question of all…

"Who's a good doggie?"
