...is using a bar mat when taking apart things with tiny parts.
The nubs making picking up small parts with your fingers easier, or if micro small, easier to pick up with tweezers or even a wooden toothpick or dental tool as the nubs will keep you from having to chase after things that want to roll away.
The nubs hold things in place.
The nubs keep the work above any puddles of solvents or lubricants, keeping the work cleaner.
AND they're dirt cheap.

Perish the thought sir. You're trying to spoil the fun of looking for a 0000-160 X 1/16th inch long screw that fell into the berber carpet, aren't you.

They're $8 at Walmart, or free from your neighborhood bar if no one is watching.

I use a recycled "flat" priority mail or ups or fedex box. The kind sized for documents. Tape them up then cut out one side.
