Pinkham & Smith were not slave to their catalog. The finish and look is consistent with early - ish Pinkham lenses normally with Serial no. in the 1,000's. Some time in the late teens or early 20's the barrels and apertures got farmed out to Wollensak, and consistently, the lenses in the later black barrels made by Wolly have serial no.'s in the 2000's. This one may be a "one off" made for a specific customer that wanted that focal length. There are no notes or recorded history, so there is more we don't know than what we do.

Rudi Blondia is putting together an important spread sheet. We can learn a few things when we have a spread sheet with a lot of comparative data available.

And fwiw, if I could have swooped in and bought this lens out from under y'all, you better betcha I would have.

Here's a couple of images made this past weekend with the Series IV that I'm offering in the Classifieds (http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?124255-Pinkham-amp-Smith-Visual-Quality-Series-IV-3-14-quot-f4). 14"

I used this lens on Saturday the 1st August at a wedding ceremony. The setting was most spectacular! An alfalfa field in a well watered mountainous area just where Nevada and California collide. Down the mountain from the ancient Bristlecone forest at Oasis Ranch.

The lens is a joy to use. These were done on asa 100 film easily, but the light was cooperating with me. I'd have not done these in full sunlight. It was a glorious afternoon.
