Both Chamonix 10x8, Schneider Kreuznach Symmar-S 360mm/f6.8 @f8, 1/2 second, Ilford HP5+ @400, Qualls' monobath in BTZS tubes, Epson 4870 scans.
The BTZS tubes seem very easy to use, although I appreciate that yesterday and today I have used them in unusual ways (two-bath Diafine yesterday, and the monobath today). I learnt that 250ml of monobath, re-used, doesn't develop the second negative quite right. I'll make a note.

Wow. May have to re-visit some of the new 2.0 stuff. Been a few years since I shot any of their stuff (small format stuff).
But before I dove into MF and LF I shot a ton of Polaroid/Impossible stuff. Stopped buying it after I just would get a photo every 1 in 3 or 4 shots.

Opaltype is a new one for me. I wonder if it would be possible for you to make a quick shot of someone holding it, outside, so we could get a feel for how it looks in real life. If that's possible and easy. As it shows here, It's gorgeous.
Are you a violinist?

Are you a violinist?
Thanks! Yes I am a violinist. Opalotypes are normally shot on frosted white glass. My aluminum plates come with a white back, so I like to make opalotypes on them if I have a good negative. Opalotypes are kind of the opposite of a tintype. Tintypes are positive images projected onto a black background to create a positive. Opalotypes are negative images projected onto a white background to get a positive. Tintypes can't have a pure white due to the black background. Opalotypes can't have true black due to the white background. In general opalotypes have very low contrast and only work for certain subjects. When scanned though you can really open up the tonal range in Photoshop. I'll try to post a quick snap of the plate tomorrow.

Besides costuming, Nora has served as officers in the St. Louis Costumers Guild and was the President of the International Costumers Guild for a number of years.

That second one reminds me a bit of the photo of the gravediggers by Evelyn Hofer ( http://www.danzigergallery.com/artists/evelyn-hofer/5 ).
I'm not a great knower of famous photography, but that one always stuck with me, I love that style.

Janice:
I hope she likes it. I do, very much. Just the barest hint of a smile. I like that.
It reminds me a little of a photo I took of my sister some 16 years ago. I liked it very much. She hated it. Head and shoulders, less smile than this one. Unfortunately I don't have a scan that I can find. I'll see her this weekend, family wedding, I should take a print and see what she still thinks.

Thank you for all of the supportive comments! I'm happy with how it turned out, especially as it's my first use of the big camera. Janice says that she likes it, but she's too nice to be critical.

This photo represents my return to film for some personal and commercial projects. It's been a long time! My friend Alva posed while I used my last three 13-year old sheets of Type 55. Two of the sheets had no image and this was the final. Arca Swiss type C scanned with Epson V750

Ootsk,
Beautiful, I especially like the first one, with its winding road.
So, this was pretty difficult, but I'd like to try again. I was just messing around at a festival with some skaters and grabbed this shot. Getting the timing and framing was just a crap-shoot and I wasted several sheets when he messed up the trick. This isn't the best pose but it's a start.

Ootsk, those are really nice. I think I have the same lens in a drawer somewhere.
Cool shot, Bryan!
I had access to a proper large format film scanner for a few days while working with a museum. so I'm now slowly working with my old photos on my computer.

I was asked to work with the Main Marine Corps museum. They wanted copies of my LF photos and other photos for use there. A huge honor to be invited up to work with them all.

Is that in Quantico? I grew up, son of a soldier, between Quantico and Ft. Belvior, and I remember they had a museum on the base. Must be fun to look at the old 4x5s in black and white. The shot above (is that Kandahar?) might also look nice in black and white.

That's the one. I worked with them for a week scanning my film, and helping them to scan their slides. I also shot a massive 222 shot panoramic of Arlington at their request.
This was shot in Bastion. I may convert it to B&W. I didn't really think of doing that because I did shot a ton of B&W, and very little color there. So I really like seing the color ones.

Well, the next time I get back to DC I'll go down to Quantico and have a look!
Looks great in color too, and that hot sun creates a muted pastel in the olive that really conveys a sense of place.

Michael Swanwick, Science Fiction author. For the "Worldbuilders of SF&F" project.
Mr. Swanwick indirectly inspired my project since he was the inspiration for Kyle Cassidy's "Where I Work" photo project of SF&F authors, which started before mine.

Laurie Tobi Edison, artist and photographer. In the early 1990s, she wanted to do a photography project which would become "Women En Large". Not knowing much about photography at that time did not deter her; she just became a master photographer and darkroom printer in short order.
For the "Worldbuilders of SF&F" project.
