We're running a very unique large format workshop this year that explores the creative use of the electrophotography process (think Xerox). It's carbon based and entirely archival (if you use the proper paper for your prints) and it offers very interesting creative possibilities for image manipulation in a light room. It's entirely hands on, analog, and very cool! To help folks understand the process more we just sat down with our workshop leader, Tom Carpenter, to discuss it further

What does entirely archival mean to workshop leader Tom Carpenter??

Hi all, good questions..

bob carnie: he's indicated that if an archival paper is used and that since the process is "printed" with a carbon based toner it meets traditional archival standards.

DrTang: in the article we posted yesterday, Carpenter said that he gets his equipment from eBay, Craigslist, and that the possibility for making it yourself isn't out of reach. So, while craigstlist is a local service, eBay certainly serves an international marketplace.

you each may feel free to email him directly with other questions (link on his website). I'm sure he'd be willing to provide you with any other information you need.

Thanks!

Reminder: Today is the last day for the discounted symposium registration rate!

If you're wondering why F295 costs more than nothing, it's because F295 speakers receive an honorarium for speaking. Workshop leaders generally take home more than half of the cost of the workshop. No one is making a lot of money, but it's our aim to not have speakers/instructors lay out money to fund our event.

F295 is trying to change the trend of asking artists and teachers to work for free. Your attendance helps to continue with that mission.

Also, on the site today we begin an occasional piece that features quotes from past speakers and attendees on "Why F295?"
