Stawastawa & Peter, thank You
The bird (Singdrossel in german) was dead in my garden and the little bottle was gift from a Lady; she found it in her town garden cultivated since early 19th century.
So I do not know how old it is. The photo was token for a heliogravure, that was not successful due to foul biting, I have to repeat

My first post in this thread. Not my normal subject but I want to experiment with photographing this clock.
Linhof MT, 240mm f/9 G-Claron, focused to about 1:1.5 magnification. Exposed at f/45, for 40 seconds (for 20 seconds of that it was chiming 7 o'clock). HP5+ dev'd in SPUR HRX, 50% reduction in time. One hot light directly behind camera:

Side note - I broke the clock while fooling with the pendulum right after this shot, but then fixed it after I figured out how the mechanism works  .

I like it, it reflects well the changed West I live in. When I was a kid nobody locked gates. We were pretty much welcome anyplace, just close the gate if you found it closed and leave it open if you found it open. Idiots have ruined it now.

Randy, I thought I commented earlier but apparently not. I really like this, especially with your titling. I almost want to see it cropped into the bulb so that we only saw the innards as an abstraction, with that title.

Thanks, Bryan. I have a lot of time in 'Atomic'. My title took a year to finalize. I see what you mean about abstraction, but Illinois uses Nukes for 50% of our power/need/usage. I was scared in the 50's, always ducking and covering. I still am. A Physics major until I saw the light. Pun intended.
I suppose I should make a huge print for more power...:)

Yea I agree! Another great SF/IR film image from Vince .
I'm good friends w/ Vince and I would bet he used an Imagon in either 200-250-300 FL, without disk as he like many including myself prefer the Imagons w/ the shutter iris to tone down diffusion to a chosen amount.

This is quite a run of interesting pictures. Y’all amaze me!
I made over 20 4x5 contact prints today. Been going through the backlog of LF images I hadn't printed yet and picked out ones that I thought would be good for the small size prints.
This is a small leaf I shot on the banks of Canada Creek a few weeks ago, just as the leaves began to fall. Close up at near 1:1 with my 150mm APO Symmar IIRC. Contact printed on Ilford ART 300 which I thought would accentuate the texture of the sand. Developed in Ansco 130 1:1. Might try toning one copy in thiourea. Here's the scan of the print:

A series of these were printed 40 x 24 for a trade show, the lab bought one because of the sharpness at the 40 inch size. MD at the show commented that the size was almost obscene, certainly scarey in a way.
Hope it worked out.

I have a REALLY dumb question. How does one post a larger photo like those on this thread? I tried finding one on my computer or copying the address from SmugMug and they are teeny weeny. Then when I go a bit larger, they're too large. I looked at the FAQ's and followed the size guidelines but still am having brain farts.
Tom Monego
16-Feb-2019, 15:34
I set the size in Photoshop 8.33 in x 4.333 in x 240 dpi. The jpg file was around 200kb. All I had was the original high res scan, so the shrunk version looks a little choppy in places. Ideally scan close to the size you want.

Hi ! Foma has nothing to see with the tone, it is traditional black and white film.
Originally this serie was lith printed by contact at Forte paper.

Then I scanned the negatives and toned them in LightRoom as close as I could
to original lith prints. Hope this helps.

Hello Iga ..... thanks for your interest.
The actual wrist-watch mechanism is about one inch across. Shot with Leica M240 and R series 60 macro lens with bellows. I do not have the equipment to make an enlarged negative like this with film. Converted to monochrome and digital negative made on Epson 3880 with the standard K3 inkset, black ink only. Negative made approximately 8 inches square because my recently acquired UV printing machine only does up to 8 x 12 inches comfortably. I wanted a square crop.
Tissue made with 10% gelatin, 5% sugar, sod benzoate as preservative and india ink, some blue and a little red ink to give the " metallic " shade I wanted. Poured on old x-ray film to about 1.5 mm thick, constrained with magnetic strips to stop the glop running everywhere. Dried for 3 days. Sensitized with Pot dichromate/acetone mix using a firm roller, dried 2 hours, then exposed. After one test print I guessed exposure at 6 minutes which luckily gave me the contrast I needed. I am trying to learn how to control the amount of relief in the final print. I would have preferred more relief than I ended up with.
Transferred to fixed out, old Ilford Multigrade III RC paper.
I made it for a Camera Club competition titled ( strangely enough ) ...... " Photo made at close distance "
The elegance of Carbon transfer has me hooked. Much to learn.

I took a couple more shots at f22 and f32 and the DOF was of course better but the light had changed, strong brightness in the top right corner causing some veiling flare. This after days of waiting for the wind to drop, with the fern opening out more day by day. The next day it had opened. Dang this photography business is fickle!

Very light crop due to about 3/8" of developing weirdness (or a very minor light leak) up the left hand side.
I hope this isn't straying too far into macro territory. I've enjoyed using the 4T (and 6T) on 35mm and hey! the Nikkor-M 300mm has a 52mm filter thread... :)

I really enjoy images like this. They're deceptively simple, when you first see them, but when you see them, they become quite complex. I wish I had the "eye" for finding and/or composing them.

What to do with all the vegetables? I don't really have a good place to set up in the house, so I'm out on the porch with my Deardorff. This is with a G-Claron 240 mm, a yellow-green filter, on 8x10 Acros (exp. 2003), developed in Pyrocat HD. The negative got stuck in the holder (I didn't tap it!), so I've cropped a bit, and lost some breathing room at the bottom. I re-shot today, rapping the holder!

Is that the very excellent Hasselblad S-Planar 5.6/120mm? If so, could I ask what adapter you are using?
(I never realised a lens for 21/4" square would cover 5x4...)

A small number of the 120mm S-Planar were made in aperture barrel or shutter.
At infinity the lens covers 6x9cm, I guess ~115mm, at 1:1 you get the double of it, ~230mm
You must take care that the ratio is large enough, here I used 1:2 and I don´t have had a reserve for movements.
The S-Planar lenses can be use in a ratio up to 2:1 without a reduced visible optical quality.
I guess it is a semi symmetrical design, especially made for this work.

Yeah, the 1st edition would have been even better. I grasp the syntax and concept of iterating over and manipulating a string quick enough with pointers. But using them in more complex structures in an application had me experiencing a lot of segmentation faults!

We have a very similar apple peeler/corer/slicer that clamps to a surface instead of vacuum. My adult kids used it to make an apple pie this Thanksgiving. I think it is too much of a pain to clean for small numbers of apples, but they seemed to enjoy using it. Somewhere I think I've seen separate tools for peeling and slicing/coring. And, for cherry pies, home scale tools for getting the pits out, too. Is that a Granny Smith apple in the foreground? I enjoy the photo for lots of reasons incl. the composition and use of selective focus. It has a really nice smoothness to it too, sort of caramel-y---I must be feeling super nostalgic this morning. I can't recall when I last had a caramel apple, but I know I enjoyed it a lot!

Yes it’s definitely different. I was going to do more of this kind of stuff with other 35mm and medium format lenses. But I ended up selling my speed graphic. I’m shooting mainly 35mm now, but I’ll get back to large format one of these days.

Tuco, your image #492 caught my attention, I like the combination of wheels which adds a little complexity. I’m also impressed by your truing stand and run-out gauge, you clearly have at least one significant interest beyond photography!

Thanks. Yes, in fact, I have a closeup in mind of the truing stand, rim and dial indicator interface to do if these cold, rainy days continue.
I guess this is not that much of a closeup
