Sorry, couldn't help it. But seriously I don't delete very often, recently I did delete a post I made because I decided it was intrusive. Maybe I should have stated why.

Which reminds me, "violating forum rules" was an option I didn't include in the poll, but maybe I should have.

So I'll vote #10, and state that it's a really good reason for deleting a post!

I always like to reread my post after I draft it and before I submit it. Sometimes, after reading, I decide it really doesn't add anything to the conversation. It's not wrong or inflammatory, but it's just not useful given what's already been said.

Excellent technique, I do this too.

Everyone should know that the "Preview changes" button is a great tool! :)

At least for me, it greatly reduces the need to edit/delete posts that are active.

Just like proof reading.

For longer posts, I like to compose in MS Word, then copy/paste to the thread.

This eliminates options #1 and #7 for me!

Usually if I delete, it's due to some network glitch that resulted in a duplicate post.

When this happens to me, I keep the first post, and delete the second post.

Once I deleted the first one – w/o saying "duplicate post" in the reason box.

Later, I got a PM from the person who posted right before the deleted post, curious if it had been a response to his. I replied that it was simply a duplicate post. He thanked me for the explanation. I think it really had been bothering him.

I'm on a mac and i can't delete posts ...
i can edit them for a little while and if i
want to remove everything i wrote and replace it
with ... i do that ( double post, over zealous response to something
that i shouldn't' have responded to in the first place &c )
or .. if it is a 4-5 year old classified or something
that was sold, i tend to click on the moderator button and ask politely
if they will remove it because it's not available anymore ... ( and they have better things to do than help me )

for example, i recently read somewhere you can use baking soda as fixer ...
and from personal experience i know this isn't true ...
and i also read that you can soak poorly fixed prints / film in baking soda to reverse the problems of poorly fixed film / prints
that doesn't work either...
